So, the triple nelson is here with the original and best Toy Story movie. This was released in 1995 this movie forgot to push the boundaries of technology in movies it rather smashed the glass ceiling. Made on a Pixar budget of $30m by the time of the third was made the budget was $200m this went on to recoup $373.6m at the box-office. It also collected fans and the love of critics on the way. As a CGI movie it didn’t star anyone but it used the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Jim Varney, Annie Potts, R. Lee Ermey, John Morris, Laurie Metcalf and Erik von Detten. Critically I mentioned in review #122 about the upcoming scores and IMDb gave this movie an 8.3 from 10 & Rotten Tomatoes gave it a perfection of 100%. Which should mean ending my list now as we cannot improve can we. Well I am 20% different for this movie which makes it sound like I hated this movie which I definitely didn’t.
The story here is that toys come to life when no one can see them. There is a pecking order in one particular house which is defined by the love the owner (young boy called Andy) has in them. Meaning Woody the cowboy is the favourite toy and as a result the rest of the toys look up to him. The neighbour boy has an opposite view of toys and see’s them as things to torture and pull apart just to reattach to other toys to form new genetically modified toys. This happy balance is a smooth and happy for the toys being played with by Andy who loves them all. Until birthday time when they all go into a panic as they maybe replaced with a new present. This particular birthday Andy gets given a Buzz Lightyear space ranger toy which will now do battle for his most popular affection with Woody. Unfortunately Buzz doesn’t realise he is a toy and thinks he is the real Space Ranger and Andy loves him making Woody jealous for the first time ever. So he invents a plan to get rid of him which goes to far leaving Buzz in the garden of the Toy Killer neighbour. Can Woody save his new best enemy, will the toys rebel against their leader after they believe he tried to kill a fellow toy. Will the toys get revenge on the neighbour?
This and many other questions answered in the movie of Toy Story. OK if you haven’t seen this movie then again what planet where you on and what is it like returning to earth. I might mock but I can see why Rotten Tomatoes would give this movie a perfect score and that is because its Disney. Sorry I jest! It is because it is a lovely family movie that took so many advances in technology to get a look that makes these toys look just like adults would remember them and how kids would love to play with them. The imaginary world that Andy creates is perfect for the toys and the world they have made makes it great to watch. The pocket sized action is frilling and you know its just CGI but you still get behind them and are desperate for them to succeed and get back to their family. This is why everyone loves this movie and why critics out there are prepared to put a perfect sticker on the box of this movie.
An extra note here is that I am moving up by 1 percentage point for the next movie, this is my highest 80% entry, which will be the lowest 81% movie then?
