So here we are back with another Toy Story movie and this was the final one for me. I am fully aware there is a ‘4’ out there but just like the Saw franchise I have not watch one from the ‘4’ onwards and I believe this franchise will suffer the same fate. This was an epic conclusion to the story for me and I have no interest in seeing anymore as I assume the stories will go downhill from there but what do I know. This was released in 2010 and used all the skills of Pixar to finish the story began in 1995 the budget had ballooned to $200m. So, was the gamble worth it? Well with a box-office return of $1.067b yes that is Billion would suggest a massive YES! With a sequel where all the characters haven’t been killed off like most of my favoured movies means that the returning to voice the characters were Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Estelle Harris, Jodi Benson, John Morris, Laurie Metcalf and R. Lee Ermey. This was R.Lee’s final role before his death in 2018. With a new story it meant a list of new names can be added including Ned Beatty, Michael Keaton, Whoopi Goldberg, Timothy Dalton, Kristen Schaal, Bonnie Hunt, and Jeff Garlin. Well with all the money made and all the actors paid was it any good? The critics definitely enjoyed with IMDb breaking character and giving it a generous (well for them) a 8.3 out of 10 & Rotten Tomatoes giving a Walt Disney movie a score of 97%. Shall we move onto the plot of this movie then?
Andy is now 17 and is preparing to leave home for college. His toys have not been played with for years and many have already gone with exception of his favourite Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, Bullseye, Rex, Slinky, Hamm, Mr & Mrs Potato Head, the aliens and a handful of toy soldiers. Woody is the only one going with Andy to college the rest are put in a trash bag to go into the loft. Due to a mix up his mother throws the bag out for the trash collectors. They narrowly escape and believe they are not needed decide to climb in a box of Molly’s (Andy’s younger sister) toys going to Sunnyside Day-care as a donation. They arrive at the Sunnyside Day-care Centre to discover it is being run by a Lots-O-Hugging-Bear called Lotso. They are over the moon with the prospect of being played with by children again. This soon changes when the younger children arrives, then they discover that Lotso is running the place like a mafia boss and keeping everyone else suppressed as him and his henchmen gamble each evening when the rest of the toys are locked up. With our heroes realising their predicament they have to form a plan of attack whilst Woody has done a runner but will he return to try and help his gang again. All seems lost but how is that going to play out for a kids movie.
I will not underplay this by saying this is a fantastic movie no matter what age you are and taste. It is simply a computer generated masterpiece, with a perfect ending. Which is why I have no interest in the fourth version of the story which I have not seen. With the advent of Sky Movies when a new movie is released there you are probably going to catch it about six times without trying. I think I watched the new Mary Poppins movie in 3 minutes slots as they are large chunks of that movie I may not of seen but I’ve seen enough to get the general plot. I have not seen more than 30 seconds of the movie. Will I ever, who knows but I can tell you this concludes the Toy’s Story perfectly with the toys together at ‘the end’. Looking out for each other, this really does bring it all together and really should not need more. If you have invested emotions into this story or the characters I put it to you that you got emotional at the end of this movie. If you didn’t then you must be as heartless as my neighbour and don’t deserve a fourth movie anyway. This is a lovely movie and is so well written and this computer generated work is amazing to the point where you forget what it is and believe these characters to be real and love them for it.
