Well here is a turn up for the books a kids movie on my list and its under the 150 mark as well, Could you imagine the uproar if I ever let slip that the next the next two movies are kids cartoon as well. We will get to them but first up is this sequel to the 1995 Toy Story with the inventively named Toy Story 2. Released in 1999 and triple the budget of the first movie this had a budget of $90m and went on to return $497.4m from the box-office. It stars returning names and some new stars also included in this list of voices used in the movie Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Don Rickles, Jim Varney, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Annie Potts, Estelle Harris, Wayne Knight, John Morris, Laurie Metcalf, R. Lee Ermey, Jodi Benson, Jonathan Harris, Joe Ranft, Jeff Pidgeon & Andrew Stanton. I had mentioned this before so here are the comparison scores from other critics to compare with mine first up is IMDb who gave this a 7.9/10 so a point difference from myself while over at Rotten Tomatoes this movie is perfect with a score of 100% and it doesn’t get any better than that. I am guessing Disney must be involved with this one then! Onto the plot.
Andy is planning on going to Cowboy camp with Woody when Woody gets his arm ripped so Andy leaves without him. Woody finds Wheezy who Andy’s mum said she was going to repair but is actually putting into a yard sale. Woody rescues him from being sold by is stolen by someone at the yard sale by the name of Al McWhiggin an owner of a toy store called Al’s Toy Barn. So now the rest of the gang set out to rescue Woody from the evil Al. Meanwhile Woody is repaired and discovers that he was the hero of a TV show called Woody’s Roundup along with Jessie a cowgirl, Bullseye his horse, and Stinky Pete a prospector from the show. For all of them being sold together to a museum in Tokyo will make Al a fortune so his plans are clear and the temptation is for Woody to go an live the life of Reilly being worshipped for his fame in a museum where he won’t be attacked by little kids anymore or left behind when they are too old for toys anymore. Meanwhile the gang are hot on his trail with Buzz, Hamm, Mr Potato Head, Slinky Dog and Rex fighting and sneaking their way down the street to the Al’s shop. The gang arrives but Woody doesn’t want to leave with them as he knows that when Andy grows up he will abandon him and the rest of the toys also. Also from the store Buzz toy enemy Zurg has woken and just like Buzz from the first movie believe his story is real and is out to get Buzz. How are the gang going to cope without Woody, are they going to survive when being hunted down by the evil Zurg and how will Andy cope without the toys in his life when returning from Cowboy Camp.
OK that is the plot and explain that the Toy Story movies are all fantastic are they my type of movie? No I probably wouldn’t go and pick this one off the shelf by myself but I am so glad I saw the first one and with it I was inspired enough to give the second one a chance as well and was not disappointed. Is this a perfect movie, no as I don’t think there is one. You have to give a movie time to see if it ages well and whether life leaves it behind or whether it is truly great. This one is doing so, thus far but if this is perfection how can the first movie be better than this. For me I cannot give any film perfection as what happens if another movie comes along that is better then you have no room to go and you have painted yourself into a corner. For me this is a great movie but the third and first movies were better so I don’t see this as perfection but it is a blooming great movie that kids and adults can watch laugh and cry together because these may be computer generated characters by they are larger than life and you love them despite or because of it. Every single one of them demands your affection as you use to play with one when you were young and they have new and historic toys alike. I will be reviewing the other two on here at some point as well so I don’t want to say too much too soon but this is a great movie just not as good as the other two. I haven’t seen the fourth movie by the way.
