Freddy’s films are coming quick and fast on this list and I can say there is 2 points from me covering 4 of the 6 movies that are on this list. This is the highest of the cluster of four before a jump of nearly 10 points before the final two from the list are reviewed. This part of the story was released in 1988 and Freddy’s back yet again to terrorise more teenagers. The movies kept making money so they kept making more of them with this one produced on a budget of $6.5m it went on to return $49.4m at the box-office. Despite its success with cash and fans of the evil one alike the critics still don’t like a horror with IMDb giving this one a 5.7 out of 10 and Rotten Tomatoes just a 55%. This one starred Lisa Wilcox, Danny Hassel, Tuesday Knight, Ken Sagoes, Rodney Eastman and of course Robert Englund as Mr Kruger himself he also appears without the makeup in this one.

The plot for this one follows on from the last one which may ruin the third movie so you have been warned. Having been released from the mental institution the three of Kristen, Kincaid and Joey are planning on moving on. Kirsten cannot shake the idea that Freddy will return some how and then she has a dream where she is in Freddy’s old boiler room. She pulls the other two plus Kincaid’s dog into the dream and they are both upset that she has reverted to her old ways. To calm her down they take her to the boiler room to show her its cold and there is no sign of ‘him’ but the dog bites Kristen waking them all up. Next day meets up with her new friends, her boyfriend Rick and his sister Alice, Sheila and Debbie (a whole new batch of teenagers). The other two tell her to let this go but Kirsten decides to stay awake whilst Kincaid falls asleep and awakens in a junkyard where Freddy has resurrected and you know the end of that battle, Joey falls asleep watching MTV and you can guess how that ends up. Freddy is back and now with a whole new batch of victims in Kristen’s new friends Freddy is going to have a field day. That sets this up for you.

For me this is the third best Elm Street movie in my batch that I have reviewed for some reason I don’t have the final part of the story as I am sure the sixth movie was the last one and its not in my box set, I know not why. This one was not the best of the batch but it has to be said it was the best of the decline. If you break them down you have the first successful movie followed by a rushed out sequel and then they set the story straight with the third before the slide down the quality scale until they finished it off. This was a good movie and added to the cannon of the Elm Street horrors. It was the best of the mainline batch. No influence from Wes Craven in this one as he had pitched an idea which was rejected by the producers and on this occasion they may of made the right one but I will always appreciate Wes’ talent and the way he terrified me from a young age and I still have this spooky scare of Freddy for some reason. There is this thing that I am not going to shake but that is the joy of childhood being terrified of something that stays with you for the rest of your life well I had Freddy to thank for that. Don’t get me wrong I don’t see that as a bad thing sometimes being scared gets your blood and excitement going and I’ve often been sat watching a movie tensing up and then when you realise that is what is happening it is a strange feeling to go hey hang on I am really into the suspense here. This film has got me and it is at this moment I internally lift my hat and clap my hands and say well done you got me! Well that’s what I am saying about Freddy, does he still scare me now, no. Would I be happy watching an Elm’s Street movie right now sat alone in a dark room as I genuinely am right now. Yes I wouldn’t have a problem with it, would I be on the edge of my seat for parts of it then yes maybe. That’s why horror works and this character has stuck with me for a long time and fair play to it.
