If the last movie was an adult comedy this is very much in the family comedy mode. Released in 1993 and starring Robin Williams, Sally Field, Pierce Brosnan, Harvey Fierstein & Robert Prosky. This was produces on a budget of $25m and went on to make a pretty penny with a return of $441.3m at the box-office. The Critics scoreboard won’t be troubled as I like it just a little bit too much more than the other two with IMDb giving it 7/10 IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes giving it a point more with a 71%. Onto the plot?

The story follows Daniel Hilliard a freelance voice actor and devoted father of three. His wife has reach an age where she needs structure and support and he is not ready to meet this requirement. He has quit his job on moral reasons and throws a chaotic birthday party for his middle child (son – Chris) which is the final straw for his wife and she asked for a divorce. Desperately trying to get his life back together without a job or a home he comes across very negatively and the court grants Miranda his wife sole custody of the children. He has three months to put his life in order ahead of the next court appearance. He gets a job pushing things around at a film studio and devises a plan on how to see his kids when he see’s an advert put in the paper by his wife searching for a nanny. He goes to his makeup experts and then makes a load of calls pretending to be other people before he settles on an old lady from Scotland. Mrs Euphegenia Doubtfire. She well he gets the job and he gets to see his kids and without knowing they get to see him. Many different experiences happen with his ex asking him for fashion advice for a dress for a date. Also having to cook for all. Having a visit from a court appointed official where he has to hide the fact there is a fictional woman living at his house. Meanwhile his other job at the tv studio had taken something of a turn when caught playing with some toys on set the big boss catches him and loves the way he would handle a kids tv slot educating and entertaining kids. How are these two lives going to come together?

This is another kind hearted movie that doesn’t deliver the perfect conclusion for the character. This is a divorce movie without a villain on either side it introduces children to that fact that sometimes relationships have a clock attached. People will split apart and nothing that the children do good or bad can change that and they shouldn’t feel responsible for it either. This movie is still funny despite the serious topic and there are many scenes that will have you laughing. The conclusion in the restaurant is great and although done in many stories, tv shows and movies before but as soon as one person plays two people you know they are going to have to go to the same place at the same time and they are going to try to cover both sides by flip flapping between the two parties to keep both elements from finding out about the other. This does it perfectively and with the characters that Robin Williams can play this is a perfect part form him and we love him for it.
