So here we are at my summit of review number 141.. There will still be the odd review here and there but basically from here onwards are the movies that I know quite well and beyond the finance the rest should be all my own work. This is one as well as I loved the original movie and although this was good it just doesn’t hold the memories of the first film. Released in 1991 and making me go ‘No WAY!’ when I think how long ago that was as I still remember seeing this in the cinema. This is the sequel to 1989 cult hit of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. This time they are having a Bogus Journey before they have to face the music in the third movie due out later this year (2020 – If you weren’t paying attention). In this movie we see the return of Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter in the main roles with other stars such as William Sadler, Joss Ackland & George Carlin. The critic’s scoreboard isn’t going to be affected with this one as IMDb only gave this a 6.3/10 and that was generous compared to Rotten Tomatoes which gave is 54%. This may of struggled to make a profit as marketing and promotion isn’t included in the production budget of $20m as it returned $38m from the box-office which to me is a profit but I am guessing from Orion’s point of view a very slim one.
Bill & Ted’s band ‘Wyld Stallyns’ has made the future a utopia for all as society based there lifestyle on their music. In 2691 a former gym teacher has turned into a terrorist and breaks into their named University and steals the Time Travel Phone Booth. In an attempt to rewrite the future he sends back robots that are identical to Bill & Ted to 20th century to stop them from winning the battle of the bands at San Dimas a turning point in the history of the boys apparently. B&T’s girlfriends from the 15th century has pick up the musical side of things much more than our hero’s but the boys are planning on proposing to each. When the robots turn up and kill them both and replacing their lifestyles. In the afterlife Death arrives and they ‘Melvin’ him and escape. After some unsuccessful attempts to contact the living world they end up in torment in hell and decide they have to face up to Death and return to the living world. Summoning Death they challenge him for their lives but they chose modern games like electronic US football and twister which they win and Death admits defeat and is now at their command. They demand they take them to heaven to find the ultimate Super Brain to help them defeat the robots and win back their girlfriends from themselves. OK, OK I’ve done too much again haven’t I?
I love this movie and it is a nice complement to the first one. I remember Megadeth and Kiss having successful songs used in the soundtrack and it being a much bigger success than it actually turned out to be at the time. This followed the boys from the highs of the first movies to the pits of hell. Literally. There are scene’s that scar me to this day, that Easter bunny bouncing down the corridors of hell, a grandma with white wispy hairs poking over her lips as she leans in for a birthday kiss. That is some scary sh!t right there. Along with the scary stuff there are some very funny stuff as well. The boys are funny, stupid, brave and heroic but they do everything with a witless charm that makes me love those characters. I guess many more will be the same when those two and Death return for the movie later this year. Will I be going to the cinema to see it, to be honest probably not in the covid-19 situation. Should it all be sorted by then maybe I will change my mind, we will have to wait and see. For this movie it is a great follow up to the original movie, not as good in my opinion but still a worthy movie.
