What? How did a kids movie get itself into the top 150? Well let me investigate and I will organise my thoughts to explain this. Made on a budget of $30m it went on to a great success recouping $192.6m at the box office. This is the fourth(?) movie from Wallace and Gromit and I assume with the death of Peter Sallis there may not be any in the future. This one starred the voices of Peter Sallis (of course), Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, Peter Kay, Nicholas Smith, Dicken Ashworth, Liz Smith, Edward Kelsey and Geraldine McEwan. Directed by Nick Parks and Steve Box so this adds to the Aardman Animations cannon. This is not waking the Tri-Critic Sync Challenge scorers because one of the three loved this movie so much more than the other two. IMDb gave this less than me with 7.4/10 but Rotten Tomatoes loved this movie giving it a glowing 94%. Shall we get to the plot.
I am going to go with the premise that you are aware of inventor Wallace and sidekick dog Gromit before proceeding. Tottingham Hall’s giant vegetable competition is coming around and Wallace and Gromit provide a humane pest control business called ‘Anti-Pesto’. They are hired to rid Lady Tottingham’s garden of rabbits. Wallace thinks up a plan to turn them against vegetables by using a mind-o-matic to brainwash them. There was a slight glitch but all seems to be ok when the rabbits show no interest in the veg. However, that night a giant rabbit devours many of the towns vegetables and a town meeting is called. A hunter Lord Victor Quartermaine offers to shoot this mysterious rabbit but Lady Tottington persuades the townsfolk to try Anti-Pesto services. W&G have a failed attempt at finding the rabbit, Lord Quartermaine decides he is going to hunt this beast anyway. The beast is a were-rabbit transferring into the beast at night and rampaging throughout the night, but who is the beast and will the hunter shoot the rabbit with his gun gun gun.
Wallace & Gromit are fantastic and a joy to watch no matter what age you are. I remember watching them when I was a young man at university and was not alone when watching and laughing out loud to The Wrong Trousers. This continues in the same silly but fun way. There is a spooky element to it as well with the Were-Rabbit roaming the town at night and when you finally see the transformation from one thing to the Rabbit its in the woods at night and quite spooky for very young children. I would still let them watch it as it really isn’t much. Peter’s voice for Wallace has been used to perfection with this character and the two together will forever remain in my heart demanding the love and respect they deserve. This movie is one of the first to be feature length with each adventure the two have had has grown in length. So, to answer the question in my first sentence is easy. The reason its here is simply because it is a really good film and is great. Simple as that!
