This is just weird!! Next!
OK I will write a little more on this one as it would appear that there is more to write. This sci-fi movie was released in 1999 and had a budget of $63m to make (although with these Sci-fi movies it just feels like they spent more) but it has a very successful return from the box-office of $465.3m. Which was enough to turn this one movie into a franchise. Starring
Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving & Joe Pantoliano this was lorded by fans and critics alike. I should may be feel ashamed as I am the one giving this movie the lowest score and by doing so ruined the opportunity of hitting near the centre of the scoreboard. As not only IMDb gave it a decent score of 8.7/10 but Rotten Tomatoes loved it as well with a 88%. 1 point between them until I wade in with a 10 point + difference. I will move swiftly onto the plot if I can do this plot justice.
It begins with a woman showing super human abilities as she flees away from the police. Thomas is a computer programmer and has been known to hack and has the alias of Neo and he feels that something is wrong with the world and is puzzled by repeated online encounters with the word Matrix. The superhuman woman contacts him (Trinity) and she tells him about a man named Morpheus who has the answers for his questions. A team of agents led by Agent Smith arrives at his work trying to find and arrest him. Neo is released with the deal of helping them to find the ‘Terrorist’ Morpheus. Neo later meets Morpheus who offers him a choice between two pills, the red will reveal the truth of the matrix and the blue will return him to his former and normal life. He decides the red and his entire reality falls apart. He wakes in a liquid filled pod among countless others attached to an elaborate electrical system. He is collected and brought back to Morpheus who is on a hovercraft. Whilst Neo is getting himself Morpheus explains that in the 21st century there was a war between humans and intelligent machines. When humans cut off access to solar power the machines used humans bioelectric power keeping them pacified in the Matrix a shared simulated reality modelled around the formal world. The machines have taken over the world and the city of Zion is the last refuge and now it’s time to fight back.
This is a great film well loved by many people and lorded by sci-fi fan’s and non-sci-fi fans as well. Everyone liked this and there is a reason as it is because this is a really clever idea of the whole world being made up and in the imagination of the people living in it. This is was a real eye opener for some that haven’t thought of this concept. OK I have to get to the point where I explain why I am not gushing over this movie like everyone else and this is probably the reason behind it. I remember when this movie came out and all these youngsters were telling me its great and you will love it. Well to repeat the words of Danny Baker I will be the judge of that, and it is possible that I didn’t give this a movie a chance. Probably not given it a fair crack of the whip. I was not in awe of this movie, I wasn’t sat down with the ohh I cannot wait for this epic feast of delight. I was not excited to see this movie I went into this movie with an ‘impress me’ attitude and it didn’t completely woo me. I was not wooed. Don’t get me wrong as I stated already stated this is a great movie and a great story but I went into this with a different attitude to everyone else. If this is the fantastic movie but neither critic gave this film 90+ score but I will conclude with this is a great film and I like so many others would recommend this movie, go enjoy! (Again)
