This comedy from America (surprisingly) is a crude and rude teenager, young adults coming of a certain age, where they basically want to bonk each other. Released in 1999 this was made on a budget of $11m, it subsequently went on to make $235.5m. Its undoubted success led a flurry of sequels and other related films in the future. I am starting to see a trend where IMDb likes rude comedies but then won’t score any film that highly. You would be hard pushed to find a movie nine point somethings but Rotten Tomatoes does not like comedies and crude, rude or silly will be scored lowly but it is not afraid to give high 90’s to classics or just plain great movies and here is my case in point. IMDb gave this a 7/10 IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 61%. Shall we get to the plot now…
OK so Five High School Seniors each with there own characteristics but friends, realise that their time together is coming to an end before they have to leave school and head in different directions. There is Jim an awkward and sexually naive nerd who’s dad tries to support and help with Porno’s and unwanted sexual advise. Oz who is a Jock and on the lacrosse team, Kevin the calm leader of the group seeking to lose his virginity to his girlfriend Vicky, Finch a sophisticated nerd who won’t crap at school and Stifler a popular Jock who throws parties when his mother is away and the only non-virgin of the group. They agree that the remaining four will not be virgins by the time they reach graduation. I think that sets up the movie for the various scenes of sexual awareness and making all the mistakes under the sun whilst trying to get their end away. Mixed into this there are plenty of practical jokes played on each other, parties and opportunities to humiliate each other.
This movie starred Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Alyson Hannigan, Natasha Lyonne, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Seann William Scott & Eugene Levy. This movie could also be lorded or blamed for the birth of many a career in Hollywood. As these youngsters went on to make more of the same franchise of movies whilst breaking out into other movies and careers in and around simply being famous. This is very close to the mark with many scenes making you cringe or heave in equal measures. However, it was and still is very funny. Even though many of the laughs are cringy awkward laughs as you feel for the fool in the middle of it all and the brunt of the joke. No one is spared in this movie as they each take their turns to be ridiculed and suffer humiliating embarrassment in turn. You will cringe and you will laugh out loud and if you have not seen it and based on these words you think you might then give it a go as you won’t be disappointed. Go enjoy.
