We have moved onto a 2006 comedy, adventure kids movie starring Ben Stiller and a whole long list of names but we will go with Carla Gugino, Dick van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Bill Cobbs, Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais, Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan. I could go on but I will stop there. This was made on a budget of $110m and then went on to pull in $574.m at the box office which has to be a good result. From a critic point of view it was met by mixed reviews with mine being the highest score then IMDb 6.4/10 and it can’t be a Disney movie as Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 43% and I will be honest and say I have no idea where that score comes from.

The story is about a new security guard starting work at a large museum the curator is Ricky Gervais so you can guess what that character is like. Ben Stiller plays the guard and he joins as the three previous guards are planning on retiring. He is left with a set of instructions which are really not very clear. This becomes clear when all of the exhibits come alive a night and some are naughty and some are friendly and helpful but all have their own special take on this bonus late night life. The guard slowly learns the ropes like the monkey that steals his keys needs to be outsmarted. The T-Rex that runs amuck just wants to play fetch with one of his bones. Once this is all understood he takes control back and starts to get an understanding. That is until the real villains of the story start their underhanded tricks to steal from the museum itself. With the added risk that if any of the exhibits are not within the museum when the sun rises they will automatically die for real and not come back. So that is enough of an overview to get you in.

This is a silly, funny entertaining movie that really does deserve a watch. Whether you hate it or not give it go. I am not going to deny its silly and Ben Stiller is playing his typical character for movies and if you have seen his other stuff then expect more of the same. Dick Van Dyke plays a great character as well as combining with all the other characters and names including Robin Williams which all combine for an amusing hour and forty five minutes. Would I recommend this movie yes whether you have kids around or not if you don’t want to engage brain to enjoy a movie then this could be the one for you.
