I should start with a confession that Spidey is my favourite superhero and has been for many years and I was slightly annoyed that Iron Man was getting all the spotlight. Then I just got bored of the umpteen number of marvel movies coming out and got fed up with them. This Spidey movie came out it 2012 and followed the three Sam Raimi trilogy of movies but does not follow that theme but is a new beginning with a new actor playing Peter Parker. This movie came about when the Spiderman 4 movie with Sam Raimi was binned around 2010 greenlighting this reboot. This movie starred Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen and Sally Field. It has a wealth of funds available to produce this movie with up to $230m to produced. This went on to make $757.9m at the box office so has to been seen as a success. This reboot of the franchise was well received by the critics as well, oh! Oh! Oh! I think we should now have a look at the Tri-Critic Sync Challenge which sees another entry on the score board but it is not the closest one yet in fact it’s on the edge of the scoreboard. As I was very similar to Rotten Tomatoes with their score of 73% but IMDb gave it a 7-point lower score of 6.9/10. Which means it is currently on the outskirts with a 7% difference. I am tempted to give a full update of the list here:

4% Difference with Scrooged, Big Trouble In Little China, Cars.

5% Difference with Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Unbreakable & The Ring.

7% Difference with Calendar Girls and now this movie.

Which means there are currently none perfect or 1%, 2%, 3% or 6% but we still have a good 187 films still to go.

Wow that was getting a bit heavy and bogged down so I am moving onto the reimagining of the plot. As the plot follows the usual method but with a bit of a twist with Peter’s parents taking him to his Aunt and Uncles as they are hiding secret papers that they have been working on. Many years later Peter is at school and being bullied by Flash Thompson and has some flirty business going on with Gwen Stacy. He sneaks into Oscorp and is bitten by the spider that gives him the superpowers that makes him Spiderman. He takes some of his parents works to a doctor who once used to work with his father (Dr Connors). This is the missing part that Dr Connors can use to complete his work and believes he will be able to replace his (the doctors) missing arm. They use some DNA from a lizard that can regenerate parts and tries it on himself. Rather than just replacing his arm turns him into the evil villain the lizard and this sets up the conflict required for the remainder of the movie which I will not spoil for you.

I am bias against this movie because of it not being Sam Raimi’s part 4 and in fact saw the end of that story and the beginning of a new one. Which to me had already been told and the story was there to run with. I believe it was deemed that Tobey Maguire was not well liked in that role so they turned to a new younger man in Andrew Garfield who in my opinion was too cool to be Peter Parker but ultimately Spiderman is cool and I guess it could have been an inspired choice. I have to begrudgingly admit that this is a good movie and I took an age to come around to this movie. Everything you would want with these movie is there the action, the person side of things, the new villain, an old girlfriend (Well a new one), more detail of his school life rather than a passing comment. This is a Spiderman movie. If you are a Spiderman fan that I claim to be then I have to bend the knee and say this is a good movie would I watch this over all three other movies. Well I would watch this over one of the other three but in my opinion I would watch one and three over this one. As the title says its just my opinion and I’ve given my verdict on the second movie and I will stick by it. I’ve also given the review here of this one, you can make up your own opinion.
