Here is another animated movie this is the third of the Shrek movies and stars many returning names including Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas, Julie Andrews, John Cleese, Rupert Everett, Eric Idle & Justin Timberlake. It was released in 2007 and three years after the second Shrek movie. The creative budget had grown to a sizable $160m to put the movie together followed by creating a box-office smash of $813.4m of revenue. Looks like a success to me, what do you think?
The King is dying meaning that it will soon be a case of Queen Fiona and King Shrek which Shrek is really not liking the idea of. All he wants is his swamp with no interruptions. King Harold points out to Shrek that there is another option and suggests his nephew Arthur Pendragon (Artie). At the same time Prince Charming has decided he wants to be the new King of Far Far Away and wants to avenge the death of the fairy godmother (mum to him). Shrek and a crew of friend sail off to retrieve Artie to be the new king. Prince Charming has rounded up as many fairy tale villains together to storm the castle and take over the kingdom. Forcing the remaining characters to flee but he finds out Shrek is not there so despatches Captain Hook to sail off and finish Shrek off. Artie was not great on the idea either and tries to turn the ship around but crashes on an island which is where Captain Hook finds them. Its at this point that I realise that I am about to ramble on with the whole plot which I do not need to do so hopefully you get the idea that no one honourable enough to take the crown wants it but the rouges want it so badly they will fight for it. Enough?
Good!
Onto the Tri-Critic Sync Challenge I scored this movie the highest and the highest by 14 point to IMDb who gave it 6.1/10 and this cannot be a Disney movie as Rotten Tomatoes gave it less than the half with a score of 41%. I’m just saying. For me this was the weakest of the Shrek movies and it was not due to the humour as this one had me laughing out loud (which doesn’t happen very often with movies) and more than once as well. This is a funny movie and set in a fantasy world which means it can create its own things up and twist them into a funny thing and they do it very well. There are funny points throughout this movie but the reason for me thinking this is the weakest is due to the plot which just didn’t win me over. Which in the grand scheme of things it really doesn’t make a huge difference to me enjoying the movie. In fact, you could skip the plot setting sections at the beginning I will enjoy dipping in and out of this movie but I would recommend giving it a go even if it is just once. Because once will no doubt lead into watching it again. As you enjoyed it in the first place!
