A comedy sequel that I quite enjoyed with Ben Stiller in it. I am sorry I just realised that made it sound like I don’t like Ben Stiller and that is not the case. This is a comedy released in 2004 and stars not only Ben Stiller but also Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand, Blythe Danner & Teri Polo. It was made on a budget of $80m it went on to make $522.7m which is a massive success in my eyes. The critics disagreed and I gave it the highest rating of the Tri-scoring thing with 12 points more than IMDb who scraped together a 6.3/10 for it. And clearly not a Disney movie as Rotten Tomatoes gave this a score of 39%.
The film is set two years after the original movie and this one is about meeting the parents of Greg and the parents of his fiancé Pam. In the previous movie we learnt how the father in law is obsessed with protecting his daughter by bugging calls and spying on Gaylord. With this type of person who would be the worse type of people they would want to me. Enter Gaylords parents a hippie type couple played by Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand. He is a lawyer turned stay at home father and his sex therapist wife, you can see where this is going. The initial meeting gets off to a bad start and goes downhill from there as their chihuahua decides it wants to screw their cat. Various other antics happen and potential new additions of the family are kept secret and all hell breaks loose.
It is very late at the moment so I am trying to wrap this up quickly and go to bed. I think this is another case of this movie is not the first movie. I think certain critics were expecting the same movie to roll out again and then was not happy when they didn’t get it. They tried to do something with the story and develop it a bit as oppose to trotting out the same thing over and over. For me this is a typical stupid and completely unrealistic comedy. If it was dull and boring and nothing happened it wouldn’t be funning and if the characters were all normal again it wouldn’t work. The only sane ones are the couple in the centre of it all with the eccentric characters imposing on their lives where they would be perfectly fine without them in their lives in the first place. Which makes those central characters so likeable and important to make this movie work. The rest of the world it completely insane which makes this movie funny and makes me laugh no it is not as good as the first movie but it is still funny.
