Released in 2014 this is a live action movie of a well-loved British kids animated TV show from back when I was a little one. This was made on a budget of $65m and then went on to be a success at the box-office grossing $282.8m which has to be seen as a success. The movie stars Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, Nicole Kidman & Ben Whishaw. The Tri-Critic Sync Challenge was not ruined by me for a change there were 3 points between me and IMDb who gave it 7.2/10. It was the love shown by Rotten Tomatoes who gave it an almost perfect 97% that took this movie off that bonus chart I am putting together.
I am worried that my plots have been getting too long so I will try and keep this one brief and to the point. This movie goes back to beginning of the Paddington story with him arriving at a Train Station in London where he bumps into Mr Brown who is desperate to leave him behind but due to his kind hearted family who convince him to take him in. Paddington is a disaster movie rolled into one character. If you want something destroyed then let Paddington look after it. He becomes a Brown and they take him into their hearts. Mr Brown on the other hand still wants him out. Enter the villain who is a taxidermy specialist who wants exotic animals and get them stuffed including Bears from deepest darkest Peru. Paddington decides he should try and find the explorer who ventured into Peru and met his Auntie and Uncle who looked after him but for some reason there is no trace of this mystery man. How can Paddington find this mysterious man, avoid the villain out to stuff him and keep the Browns safe and happy as well.
How’s that? Job done? Now onto my view which I have to say over time I have reached a point and you may have detected this already that I am fed up with Hollywood assuming they can rehash something and expect the folding to come rolling in. Well come up with something inventive please!! So, when I heard that Paddington was being turned into a feature length live action movie my heart sunk. How dare they take another joy from my childhood and fire it into the rubbish bin. Honestly that is how I felt. When released everyone came away from the movie saying its good give it a chance and I said ‘No’ I am not interested in justifying this movie with any form of credit. I was not interested in that at all. Eventually the kids gained this DVD and eventually I had to give in and have it on whilst being in the same room and well, yes, my view changes. 75% change in fact. What this movie does it take something from mine and many others childhood and wraps it in bow and give the opportunity to youngsters today to enjoy the same character that I did. Not strictly the same but the old shows are available and if you want to reminisce then you can do that as well. This movie also gives you the opportunity to introduce your children to the old version of this silly bear. Did you enjoy that? He was very different when I was little come and have a look at this. It might work and for me to be completely honest this is a very enjoyable movie and if you have kids around you could do a hell of a lot worse than putting this on and enjoying it with them.
