#228 - Inception – (75%)

This 2010 movie is a sci-fi action movie, starring some big Hollywood names such as

Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger & Michael Caine. Made on a budget $160m it went on to make a very tidy $829.9m at the box-office which has to be seen as phenomenon. Everyone loved this movie as I was lowest scorer in the Tri-Critic Sync Challenge as my 75% ruined it as IMDb gave it 8.8/10 and equally Rotten Tomatoes gave it a great 87%. So, I ruined the chance of a one percenter here but I stand by score and will get to that a bit later after the plot which seems to be a neat Segway.

OK onto the plot then… I think I just swallowed something hard and jagged. Those that have seen this movie may see my predicament here as this is not an easy one to explain. Where do I start? This is about corporate espionage by using experimental military technology. They use the technology to infiltrate their targets subconscious and extract information through sharing their dream. They intercept (huh see!) their dreams by inputting themselves into them to extract the info. So, the head of the extractors is Dom Cobb and he is contacted by Saito who wants his competitor to dissolve the family business. In return Saito promised to clear Cobb’s criminal status which is preventing him from returning home to his children. He accepts and the game is a foot. Now they have to go the second and third level by creating a dream within a dream within a dream. That I think is the best explanation that I am going to be able to give you.

Everybody loves this movie and there is a good reason as this is a very clever and you need to be smart enough to follow what the hell is going on. It works very well as an action movie as well as a sci-fi. I can hear you already why isn’t it top of my list then? I have to say that it does work as everything I’ve said but my deep-down scepticism just wouldn’t let this film in. It is futuristic but the whole concept of infiltrating someone dreams to then take it to another level where they have a dream inside a dream inside a dream for someone who doesn’t really remember my dreams it’s a case of a step too far. Is this a good film would I recommend it? Hell yeah it ticks so many boxes it has to be seen as great in so many eyes, but it’s just good in mine. Maybe I should feel sorry for that and give it another try well I guess I could and report back here. Will it mean me adding another 10 points on top to level it all off seems just like a dream to me.
