We go from an adult comedy to a very kid’s comedy. An animated kids’ comedy at that, so again no actors appearing on screen just the voices of Jim Parsons, Rihanna, Steve Martin, Jennifer Lopez, and Matt Jones. Who all give a worthwhile performance and I love the voice of Jim in the lead role. This was made on a budget of $135m and went on to coin in $386m which must have been a success. This and me giving it a 74% well other critics didn’t with a 6.6/10 from our friends at IMDb & a scrapping of the barrel at Rotten Tomatoes with a 50% score there. I will try and explain this a bit later but first I will give you an idea of the plot.
‘Oh’ is the main character and a member of an alien race called to Boov, they have a mortal enemy called the Gorg who have been chasing them around the galaxy. Boov won’t fight but will run and hide by taking over planets in a nice friendly invasion. They take all the people of the world and move them to a camp where they can just live over there while the Boov take over everyone’s homes and material goods. Oh voiced by Jim Parsons sets up a house warming party that no over Boov’s are interested in coming so he sends a reply all email to all of the Boov kind. Unfortunately, he has hit the send to all button so rather than inviting everyone to his new home he has told the entire galaxy where the Boov are so it will only be a mater of time before the Gorg work out where to attack. Oh is now shunned by his people and he goes on the run where he bumps into a lone human girl as a sole survivor and on the run from the Boov whilst trying to find her mother. The girl is called Tip Tucci played by Rianna. The pair are forced to team up and try and save both species whilst the entire population of the world is after them both.
This was an enjoyable film. I was forced kicking and screaming to go to the cinema to see a movie that I knew absolutely nothing about and I have to save the kids loved it and I was entertained as well. Was I just in a good mood that day? I don’t know but we enjoyed the movie enough to go out and buy it. I loved the humour and the voice of low pan calm but extremely frustrating Oh was played by Sheldon himself who’s character comes across in this movie, whether that was the idea or not isn’t clear. I found myself laughing at the animation when Oh cannot help by dance when music is played and the dry humour underlaying the main action and stunning graphic. Which for me really worked well together and I for one would recommend this movie and very enjoyable with the kids in tow also!
Enjoy!!
