#246 - Childs Play 3 – (74%)

Another Child’s Play Movie in the 200’s and it is lower than the remake but this is the third movie in the franchise and it uses the same formula as the first two movies but the actor playing Andy has been replaced. Seeing the plot this is for obvious reasons as Andy has grown up lots by now. The movie is rumoured to have been put together on a budget of $13m it went onto make $20.5m at the box-office which to me doesn’t sound that great to me. It could be worse if the reported cost of production was more or if marketing hasn’t been taken into account. The critics did not much like it either with IMDb scoring it a generous 5.1/10 when compared to 29% from Rotten Tomatoes. So the trivector scores all the same could not be further apart. OH! I nearly forgot to mention the stars as there is a sprinkling of them, those being Justin Whalin, Perrey Reeves, Jeremy Sylvers and Brad Dourif returning as the voice of Chucky.

Onto the plot Chucky is back as it wouldn’t be much of a movie without him. And wants to go and kill Andy because of all the pain and hardship that he has caused Charles Lee Ray the fact that Andy’s life has already been ruined by him. By now with Andy’s life in the toilet he has been shipped off to military school without really being given the choice. He makes friends with a nerdy guy in his troop and very friendly with another girl who stands up to the group leader and look away kids as he’s a dick. Making Andy go above and beyond to impress him and then trying to find excuses to punish his students. Meantime Chucky has worked out where Andy is and has also found a way into the barracks. He reveals himself to a younger kid that had stolen him away to play with rather than deliver the parcel he was in to Andy which ultimately means Chucky can take the soul of this kid and doesn’t need Andy anymore. This gives him more reason just to kill Andy and be done with it. Despite the body count slowly ticking along no one seems to notice or care that these accidents keep happening and Andy is the only one panicking. The movie concludes with a war game between two teams made up of the entire school. Chucky has sneaked in and replaced the team opposing Andy’s team paint balls with real bullets that way he can sit back and watch the carnage.

If everyone hates this movie why do I like it? I hear you ask. Well it’s a continuation of the original story and not some Hollywood bigwig going the fans want to see this so give it too them. It is a case of someone understanding that the character is evil but well-liked by horror fans so keep that story going and make another movie. Its ok to milk something when you are making something that the customer wants. Don’t make rubbish and then moan when people don’t buy it. Didn’t answer the question did I. Well this movie has grown on me since its first watch, I have come back to appreciate what it really is and it is a funny silly romp of one liners from Brad and some poor acting and a classic horror slasher movie than anyone can appreciate. So it is going to heralded a great movie, nope or even a great horror probably not but it is a good silly romp and entertaining for an evening.
