This 2011 movie is the fourth movie in the franchise it stars Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, Ian McShane, Kevin McNally and Geoffrey Rush. It was one of the highest grossing movies of the year and when you are up against one of the Harry Potter movies you are not going to win. It cost $410.6m to produce and then went on to gross an eye watering $1.046b yes its that Billion mark again.

I am going to be honest here and say that I am going to struggle to give you a decent overview of the plot so I will be happy to take corrections in the comments below and I look forward to them. Jack has been captured whilst trying to rescue his first mate in England. He is asked by the King George to find the fountain of youth as he knows the Spanish are after it and wants the British to get there first. Barbossa has already been recruited to lead the voyage but Jack refuses and then escapes and meets his father who warns him about the rituals involved with the fountain of youth. Gibbs secures a place on the boat by burning the map and knowing where the fountain is as well. Meanwhile an imposter is pretending to be Jack and recruiting a crew to seek the fountain, which turns out to be Jack’s ex and daughter of Blackbeard. He also tries to lead a mutiny which fails and is forced into guiding the crew to the fountain. So, two or three different teams go sailing off and various and typical adventures occur.

I am stopping the plot there because to be honest my interest in this movie franchise had run its course. I enjoy them and if its on I will be happy to watch one on the tv. They have blurred into a mush of movies now. I remember the first one quite well and for me they have become the same thing. They are all good and enjoyable and I love the character of Jack Sparrow and how selfish or self-preserving is a better title. He likes his booze and women and anything else takes his interest. Which are all reasons to hate the character but Depp carries it off to perfection with a constantly drunk appearance whilst an underlying cunning is constantly on the prowl for better things. Well to this movie I haven’t give the triangle of scores yet and that’s because of the huge success this movie had at the box office that it has to be great didn’t it well IMDb gave it 6.6/10 and Rotten Tomatoes gave it a meagre 33%
