#253 - Star Wars: Attack of The Clones – (74%)

Well there was the chance to have the perfect three equal scores and I go and screw it up and give a Star Wars movie 10 points more than the others as both IMDb gave it 6.5/10 and Rotten Tomatoes also gives it a 65%. So now I feel like I have to justify this movie with a great review as to why I liked it more than them. Well it was the second movie in the story line but the fifth Star Wars movie to be released. It was three years after Episode one and goes to demonstrate that when you are weaving a trilogy you can have a story which the arch passes through with logic and one follows the other. Anyway, just like the first this was always going to be a success and cost $115m to create and went on to gross $653m at the box office. It stars some returning people and some new ones as well with a cast of Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Ian McDiarmid, Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Lee, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker and Frank Oz. Shall we move onto the plot now?

The plot begins with an assassination attempt on Padme Amidala who has Jedi’s as protection. This set up a chase and then an investigation which Obi-Wan undertakes. Anakin Skywalker is assigned to protect Amidala which allows them time for their love to blossom. Whilst the Chancellor Palpatine is doing his political manoeuvring to organise an army to support the Jedi’s in their work. It just so happens that Obi’s investigation leads him to an ocean planet where they are just putting a clone army together on a Jedi’s request this is all very complicated and a hell of a story to unravel ahead of the climax of the middle movie of the second but first trilogy of the story. I hope you are following.

Not the best Star Wars movie out there but definitely not the worst. This is the second movie and continues the story from episode and leads you into the third. The issue I had with these stories is that we knew what the story would do in terms of we are following the origins of Darth Vader and it is very possible that they could of easily of reached Darth Vader in this movie and then had episode 3 of the empires climb to galactic powerhouse as a story unknown rather than having the story of how Darth Vader came together. Its just my take on it and it also shows that when a story writers or director that has controls a movie listens to the fans and takes note to fulfil their views. It came out in the first film that people were not pleased with Jar Jar so his part shrunk to next to nothing in this movie. As Lucas can listen and respond, that is not pandering it making economic decision that did not directly affect his plan for the long-term goal of the movie so went with it. It is a good movie I found it fifth in the six-movie franchise and its enjoyable particularly if you are a Boba Fett fan as his dad is in it most of the time and him as a child also. A thumbs up even if a slightly wobbly thumb.
