Another sequel in the two hundred’s on my list, now the problems with sequels is they rarely live up to original movie and get bums on seats based on the success of the first movie. Well this version out performed the original in the UK as it had a budget of $40m and made $80.3m (that was .3 more than the original in the UK). The film actually grossed $227.3m worldwide, so that has to be seen as a great result. It stars Ben Whishaw as the voice of Paddington, with Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Brendan Gleeson, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, and Hugh Grant in actual acting roles. Many of those returning for the second movie.
To give you an overview of this story Paddington is out shopping trying to find a birthday present for his auntie who is turning 100. He has settled into life living with the Browns in central London and is now doing odd jobs and tasks to raise money to get the present. He is after is a unique pop-up book for her and is just about to gather enough money together to be able to afford the book. When the book is stolen and Paddington is framed for the crime. Not only that he is convicted and sent to prison where his happiness and joy is catching and he brings the morale of the prisoners up. He makes friends with a short-fused chef called Knuckles. Knuckles gets a group of his mates together and decides to bust out of jail and take Paddington with them. Paddington is persuaded to go along as they convince him that they will try and clear his name as soon as they are free. The Browns are convinced that he is innocent and are trying to clear his name on the outside. When the bear is about to free also. Enough of a plot to get you going?
This is another pleasant and joy making movie. Its fun, light, extremely family friendly and will put a smile on your face if not laughing out loud. This is why I think it’s a better film than the previous reviewed movie and also why it’s a Myers recommended movie as well. So why was I saying that sequels are bad because I was aware that IMDb had given it a score of 7.8/10 on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes has it at 100% last time I checked this is probably to do with the algorithms and that only two critics gave it a good score and boom a 100% score. I am tempted to drop it from my gauge for a movie but still a little bit of me is dreaming of the three identical scores thing (which will also never happen). Sorry I digress again from this happy pleasant movie that you should really give it a chance and go see it.
