He we go then with another movie that is at both ends of the scale depending on who opinion you seek. Remember that bit up at the top when I said you like movies for different reasons well this maybe one of those cases. This is obviously the sequel to the 2006 original which was released in 2009. It stars many from the original movie and some new names as well, this film boast a stars list of Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Amy Adams, Steve Coogan, Hank Azaria, Bill Hader, Christopher Guest, Alain Chabat, Jon Bernthal, and Robin Williams. In terms of cold hard cash this one did alright thank you! Turning a budget of $150m into $413.1m at the box office has to be seen as a success. From the trio of scorers for this movie I have given it the highest by some way with 74% where the IMDb mob went with a cool 6/10 and Rotten Tomatoes went with a ruthless 45%.
I will take this opportunity to move onto the plot and I will try not to go into the usual long drawn out version in an attempted to just give you and overview of this movie. Following from the first movie this is set about three years after the first movie. Larry Daley is now the owner of a direct response television company that sells inventions based on his experiences. He receives a phone call from Jedediah as the monkey Dexter has stolen the tablet of Ahkmenrah and taken it to Smithsonian Institution. This is because the museum is slowly reducing the number of exhibits to move into the digital age they are replacing them and moving them over to this institute. With the tablet staying behind it will mean the effective death of all the exhibits that used to come to life at night. Larry come back with his son and pretends to be the security guard to gain access. Meanwhile an ancient mummy (the brother of Ankmenrah) has awoken and decided that he wants the tablet to be able to take over control of the world. He recruits some of the most evil characters in history to help progress his evil plan. Larry has to do battle with some of the most evil men in history (but not Hitler) Al Capone is one whilst trying to save the museum’s artifacts jut to be able to keep them alive. He goes through a load more adventures and comedy elements in attempt to reach his goals. Is it going to be too much in this movie, you will have to go and see that for yourself now won’t you.
This is another great kids movie with the forces of good and evil trying to triumph with the added element of time running out on everyone’s life involved beyond the real people. There are jokes a plenty here and an entertaining and fast pace adventure. Where did RT get its score of 45% from then? Well this is a poor sibling of the original and it clearly peaked with the first movie and this one is well on it way down the slope on the other side. Just because one film is better than another doesn’t mean one is good and he other bad. This movie just cannot live with its older, stronger, funnier and more entertaining brother. It is not its fault it just has to be the best it can. At the time of release the company I worked for at the time sponsored this movie which is probably why I liked this movie long before I ever saw it. This may well be a bigger reason for the higher score than the other reasons mentioned. I feel this is the time I should move on.
