Yes, this movie is on my list and no I do not own it or the next movie but it’s here so here is my opinion of it. This was a 1988 movie that was a success at the box office with a budget of $6m it went on to make $14m at the box office. It stars Annabeth Gish, Julia Roberts, Lili Taylor, Vincent Phillip D'Onofrio, William R. Moses & Adam Storke. I believe it was also the first film of Matt Damon. As this isn’t my film and as I type it is quite late so this may well be a very short review. Onto the plot!
This is a coming of age movie for three women who all work at a restaurant called the Mystic Pizza. There are Kat and Daisy who are sisters and Jojo, who are all waitresses with love and life problems. Kat the younger of the sisters has her life planned out she is intelligent and has a partial scholarship at Yale University so is serving tables and babysitting to cover the remainder of the cash to get through her education. Daisy the older sister is desperate to get out of town of Mystic and is going to have a much fun as possible before she gets out of dodge. Jojo failed to get her own wedding when she fainted and is desperate to take her relationship to the next level (I mean sex – but there are children reading!) but he won’t make that commitment until they are married. Then everything takes a strange turn for each of them as Kat has an affair with a man she is babysitting for. Daisy meets a man who takes her home to meet his family who makes some humorous remarks about her nationality and he massively overreacts causing them to have a big argument. Jojo fiancée realises that she only seems interested in one thing and it’s not marriage so he decides to break the relationship off. I think that’s enough to whet your appetite don’t you think.
As I mentioned this isn’t my movie but that doesn’t make it a bad movie. Would I ever put this on and watch it alone of an evening – no. Sorry but I wouldn’t. It is a girlie flick and that rules me out of gushing over it sorry but I won’t. Is it a good film yes for a girlie movie and being male it doesn’t exclude me. This is not a bad movie and you should enjoy it with the emotional rollercoaster of the girls involved. Go and see it for yourself.
