The Muppets are back on the list again, I think I had a little purge and try to buy all the movies when I had the chance, I think I am over it now and can return to normal life without the need to buy more muppet movies. This is another movie with a close set of scores 7.2/10 form IMDb and Rotten Tomato’s with the highest score again at 76%. The movie was released in 1981 made on a budget of $14m it went on to make $31.2m at the box office. It was filmed in the UK and for me sums up the classic Muppets movie. This was the Muppets close to their peak in entertainment.
The plot for the Muppets is always immaterial but they did have one. It relates to the theft of some jewels from Lady Holiday a fashion designer. Twin’s and reporters for Kermit & Fozzie team up with Gonzo also of the Daily Chronicle travel to the UK to investigate the stolen items and try and solve the mystery. They head to the only free hotel in London which is owned and attended by Muppets (they had to squeeze them in somehow). After settling in they travel to see Lady Holiday and they meet Miss Piggy who leads them to believe she is Lady Holiday. The mystery is afoot and Miss Piggy isn’t being honest, is there someone else in the picture and can the Muppets solve this mystery.
As mentioned all the Muppets are there and there is a long list of cameos as well. I will see if I can get a list for you. Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Jerry Nelson, Richard Hunt, Dave Goelz, Steve Whitmire, Louise Gold, Kathryn Mullen and Caroll Spinney as the Muppets. With Diana Rigg, Charles Grodin, Erica Creer, Kate Howard and Della Finch as the real life (human) actors. The list of cameos includes John Cleese, Joan Sanderson, Jack Warden, Peter Falk, Robert Morley, Peter Ustinov, Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Michael Robbins, Peter Hughes, Peggy Aitchison, Tommy Godfrey, Richard Hunt & Jerry Nelson. It is a musical as well and I love the work and sheer amount of efforts that Jim Henson, Frank Oz and the Muppets team put into their productions it cannot be easy to have shots of the gang next to people to hiding under floorboard and sitting under tables. Must have taken a lot of effort and I just admire it as it is genuinely entertaining as well. If you don’t like the old Muppets that is fine as I won’t start an argument with you but I feel sorry for you as you are those that have missed out.
