#273 - Iron Man – (73%)

Why is this ahead of Scooby Do well I think it’s because it’s more of a grown-up movie. Starring Robert Downey Jr this for me was the start of the marvel movie takeover of the cinema. This reportedly cost $140m to produce and then went on to make $585m at the box office and the success of this movie moved Iron Man into the head of the Marvel universe and for me turned this 2008 movie into the stone at the top of the mountain. A stone that rolled and gathered many more stones, rocks and boulders and turned Marvel Movies in to the billion-dollar industry it is now. Shame they don’t care so much about the comics which was the original source of all of these stories and characters.

The plot of this movie is really the birth of Iron Man and how Tony Stark became the head of the multimillion-dollar business. Built a suit after being damaged by his own companies’ missiles that has got into the hands of a terrorist’s group in Afghanistan. He has some electromagnets inserted into him to prevent shrapnel getting into his heart which then means they could build the iron man suit around him which he uses to escape. Returning to his huge company he uses the fortune to build himself a much better suit and uses his control to stop the business from creating any further missiles. This annoys members of the board who worked with his father and who are also selling the missiles in the first place. Is some retribution coming to the Stark man? Well you can go watch it and find out for yourself.

The movie was back when Marvel used to make movies just for individual characters it has a modest number of stars in it - Robert Downey Jr, Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, Shaun Toub, and Gwyneth Paltrow. It has all the action anyone would want from a superhero movie. It’s not going to be iconic as the latest Avengers movies and they are so now entwined that I have given up trying to keep up. To be honest this is my son’s movie and I wouldn’t have brought it myself as it would have given my OCD of owning the rest too much to fight against and win. So, Marvel movies would have had a ton of money out of me and I wouldn’t really want that now. I would recommend watching it and enjoying it but how much you get into the rest of this universe I will lead you to decide.
