#280 - Rio - (73%)

Well if the last movie was a struggle to remember the plot what chance do I have with this animated movie set in Brazil! Small to zero! Released in 2011 this uses the voice talents of Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, George Lopez, Jemaine Clement, Tracy Morgan, Leslie Mann, Will.i.am & Jamie Foxx. We are really close on the mythical all agreed on the score would be one of the closest this time out with me on 73% and IMDb at 6.9/10 and the last one being 72% Rotten Tomato’s, that to me means 4% between the three of us.

Onto the plot and apologies in advance for the gaps but the story is about a Spix’s Macaw who had been smuggled to America to be sold on the black market. It literally fell off the back of a lorry and is found by a young girl. She grows up to be a bookstore owner and the parrot lives with her and is mocked by other birds for not being able to fly and being more than happy in a cage. An ornapologist ornathologist Aurnafologest a bird expert explains that the Spix Macaw parrot is almost extinct and he would pay to take her and the parrot down to Rio to see if they could get Blu (the parrot) to breed with the last female of the species. A bit reluctant she agrees and off to Rio where an anti-bird man decides to get involved in the story and steals both the male and female parrot to stop them creating more parrots. Apparently, he is annoyed as he lost his spot-on television to a parrot. The parrots escape into the amazon jungle where they are still chained together and Blu cannot fly. They meet with lots of other birds on there travels and plenty of adventures as well. I think that is enough of the plot line for a movie I haven’t seen in a while.

When I originally set this list up, I looked at the movie and gave it a score then filtered to list to see which movies had the same score to put them into a list. Then the movies come up that I remember enjoying and the kids loved and then I get to them in the list and I feel duty bound to give an overview of the plot and it all goes grey. The movie itself was a success with a budget of $90m it grossed $484m at the box office and spawned a sequel. So with a hazy plot what I do remember of this movie is the kids loving it, the colour, the fast pace and excitement they had. Which is why I remember it so fondly and would happily sit through this again and probably again as well. But the kids have moved on and this movie doesn’t get the outings it once did and it’s a bit of a shame so I will wait for one of the tv channels to show it on a bank holiday (normally early afternoon) and I will be able to enjoy it again. Maybe I should take some notes of the plot next time.
