This is a kid’s film, I know and its in the 200’s of my list! Why is this 1999 movie in my top 300 I hear you ask? Well staring the voice of Michael J Fox as the main character Stuart Little. The actors in the movie are Geena Davis, Hugh Laurie, and Jonathan Lipnicki. Other than Michael we have the voice talents of Nathan Lane, Chazz Palminteri, Steve Zahn, Bruno Kirby, and Jennifer Tilly. It was made on a budget of $135m and went on to make $300m at the box office so it can’t be that bad for a kid’s movie can it. Director by Rob Minkoff it has scores of 5.9/10 on IMDb and 67% from the rotten lot and a strong 73% from me.
To the plot!! A couple with a son already have decided to adopt a new family member. So, they go to the orphanage and they meet Stuart. A CGI mouse with the voice of Teen Wolf. They decide to offer him a safe and good life by adopting him and take him home to the pet cat and young boy who is slightly annoyed that the family are trying to replace him before reaching 10. So, from the frosty reception from his sibling Stuart has to get over the fact that the family pet actually wants to eat him. A fact that the cat (voiced by the wonderful Nathan Lane) cannot eat a family member leaves puss slightly annoyed and now he is being mocked by his cat friends as well. Being the pet of a mouse isn’t the greatest is it. As the family steadily grows together (I won’t spoil the boat race) Stuarts actual parents arrive and decide to take advantage of his new support and ultimately want to take him home. After arriving there it doesn’t take Stuart long to realise, he wants to go back home. Once a Little always a Little or something like that, how is going to get there with every cat in the neighbourhood wanting to eat him before he gets there.
This is a great family film; it gets the kids invested in characters that you can fully understand why they are feeling the way they do and why they act in the way they do. The cat would be upset the brother would be jealous and Stuart would be thankful and nervous coming into a new home. The mouse manages to get himself into plenty of scraps throughout the movie and you are never sucked in enough to realise that the thing in peril is in fact a CGI Mouse. But you do find yourself caring about this animated character, you do want him to succeed and you don’t want him to get hurt and you feel for the kid. And you really want to slap his parents in the face for the over the top oozy love they give. As its Huge & Geena for me I could live with it but it does feel like a Disney perfect life classic. Bottom line this is a great kids movie they you can all enjoy so go do it.
