OK going from a girlie film that I enjoyed to Free Willy 2! Well I have to get through to the 100’s some how and navigating passed some movies that were not my choice has to be done. So apparently this was a flop at the box office as it cost $31m to make and it took $30m but that still didn’t stop the third one following on the end of this one. It stars Jason James Richter, August Schellenberg, Jayne Atkinson, Jon Tenney, Elizabeth Peña & Michael Madsen. The review sites don’t much care for it either with IMDb at /10 and 31% tomatoes. It was released in 1995, two years after the original movie.

The plot picks up two years after the first and Jessie has been adopted and plan a trip to the Pacific Northwest to try and teach Jesse how to drive a motorboat. The social worker turns up and explains that Jesse has a younger brother and his biological mother has died leaving the option for his younger brother to stay. In a story of reuniting he not only finds Randolph the Native American who helped Willy escape in the first movie. He follows this but hooking up with Willy as well because Randolph is working at an environmental institute. His buddy Willy and his female Luna get covered in Oil when a tanker crashes and the evil owner (there has to be one doesn’t there!) suggests taking them back into captivity to be able to nurse them back to health. Which translates into selling them to another fish park for profits from performing animals. Does that set the story up for you? I hope so as I am not going to give any spoilers away, you can just read the title for that.

So, another poop film that is reasonably high on my list. Why’s that I hear you ask well because this has the same charm and charisma as the original. Maybe not as good and not as successful as the first this has enough engagement to carry on the story from the first movie and really gets you to ignore the “Oh Really’s” going off in your head to be to say well ok I will let the one go as the kids are enjoying it and the house seems actually quiet for a moment or two. So is this a great movie or see an Oscar Night clean sweep of awards well no not even close, but its charm and gentle story will draw you into care for that huge black and white monster of a killing machine of the ocean. It really does. No, I don’t know why but it does.
