#296 - What Women Want - (73%)

Writer's picture: MyersMyers

Released in 2000 this movie was made on a budget of $70m and went on to gross $375m at the box-office. It’s a comedy starring Mel Gibson with Helen Hunt, Marisa Tomei, Lauren Holly, Mark Feuerstein & Alan Alda.

The plot revolves around a chauvinist turn good. OK I’ve given it away and I am not four lines into this one. Mel plays Nick Marshall an advertising executive who would sell his own mother to get the deal. He is a womaniser as well as a damn good executive. He is expecting a big promotion but his manager decides to hire a woman from outside the firm, to be more appealing to women in the marketplace. His ex-wife is off on honeymoon so he’s looking after his daughter who is very (Over) protective of. He has an accident and electric blasts himself to hearing women’s thoughts. Well he starts to use to his advantage to get what he wants from women and hearing his daughter’s thoughts also makes him realise what he feels about him. This eventually starts to make him realise that the lifestyle he had before may not have been the right path for him.

This film is on my list because it’s in the house and I have to be honest and say this is not mine but I did enjoy it as a film. It’s funny and leads the viewer neatly through the main characters transformation in a rational way. The humour is good and is a girlie film that men can watch and enjoy as well. It has Mel Gibson in it who is far from one of my favourite actors but even that cannot ruin my enjoyment of this movie. Just please keep it a secret from a certain group of friends ok.
