OK the prequels to the originals kick off on this list with episode one of the 6 part (ohhhh controversial) OK they made 9 movies in the star wars story unfortunately Mr Lucas set up the story (Episode 4 to 6) and then added a slightly weaker pre-story (episodes 1-3) before Disney came along and brought it, just to ignore Mr Lucas' story idea and ran with their own much better un-planned story arc. Well you decide for yourself. I am currently here to review episode one so I will do just that and then stop. As I was discussing this movie only just this morning and I will give you an overview of that conversation in the third part of my typical review. I remember seeing a movie reviewer on tv talking about what was called at the time Star Wars Episode one. He said that George Lucas could of put a camera in the sand pointing at George sat on a deckchair drinking an alcoholic beverage with a handkerchief on his head wearing sunglasses covered in sun cream and videoed it for an hour and a half and it would have been a box office success as long as he called it Star Wars episode one. Well they spent a budget of $115m to make this movie so slightly more effort and it was a massive hit grossing $1.027 BILLION!!!

The film was released in 1999 and follows two Jedi’s that have been sent to the support the planet of Naboo which is currently being blockaded by the trade federation ships surrounding the planet. Which has upset the Galactic Republic who sent the Jedi to the federation ships to resolve the conflict. They fear this maybe a set up for an invasion and the secret benefactor orders the Jedi’s execution ahead of the invasion. The Jedi escape and flee to the planet of Naboo but their ship gets damaged and they meet up with a slave and her son. Sensing the force in the son they try to organise the parts for the ship whilst trying to organise an escape plan for them both. The secret benefactor of the blockade is a Sith Lord called Darth Sidious and discovering he is on the planet and the invasion is coming the Jedi rally two other tribes (oh 10,000BC again!!) one from the forest and the others under the sea’s they form an alliance with the people of Naboo to fight against the invading droid army. Wh-oops given lots of plot away there.

For the fourth Star Wars movie to come out this is a very political, economic, spy and negotiation story for the kids. It doesn’t follow on from the third film and before you say this is episode 1 so it wouldn’t follow from 6, I mean in tone and type of movie. This has the light airy side of Star Wars story but with a political debate in the middle of it. It also has the best villain since Darth Vader in it and spoiler alert he gets killed off in the first episode. He was the one thing that really could have made these three-intro episodes so much better and sinister especially knowing he had escaped and could turn up at any point. So, what did I not enjoy about this movie and I honest think I’ve seen this movie nearly as much as the original (4-6) as I seem to in front of the TV whenever this is on!!

What of my conversation this morning? Well this movie runs for 2 hours and nearly 20 minutes and that is my problem with the film there is so much additional stuff in there that is just not needed. I described this movie as the longest advert for a computer games, merchandise and games I’ve ever seen. The whole pod race was just to offer the gamers a racing game. I’ve asked big fans of this film to explain why and I haven’t heard a better reason for that whole race scene yet. Cut that out and you take it down to under a 2-hour film. Again, in this section do I love this movie probably not the Jar Jar character did not help but did give a bit of light relief. Would I tell you to drop everything and go watch this movie, no but it’s not as bad as some may say it is.
