#311 - Home Alone 2: Lost in New York - (72%)

Writer's picture: MyersMyers

The one with Donald Trump in it!! Yes that one, made with a budget of $28m it went on to make $359 at the box office way back in 1992. It starred Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, John Heard, Tim Curry, Brenda Fricker and Catherine O'Hara. The big success of this movie meant they went on to make a third movie but none of the names above would appear in the next movie. Despite the success at the box office the critics were not quite so keen when released. Looking back now the Rotten Tom’s gave it 33% and IMDb 6.7/10. So, mixed to say the least.

The story follows a similar theme to the first one as the family with the biggest house this side of San Francisco have decided to fly to Miami for Christmas. Firstly, how rich are this family as well? They are taking the whole family to MIAMI FOR CHRISTMAS!! This time Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) does not get left behind but this time but catches the wrong plane and lands in New York where the rest of the family get to Miami. So, Kevin manages to convince the Plaza Hotel that his parents are around and he can check in and stay there. He does this after being terrified by a homeless lady in the park, just like the scary neighbour in the first one. Added to this the after a riot at Chicago Prison Harry & Marv the burglars from the first movie escape and decided to head to guess where? That’s right New York, How did you guess? Well with Kevin dodging the bumbling manager Tim Curry. Hey Tim Curry is in this movie stop the review its going to be fantastic, that’s it all done.

Sorry where was I, oh yes, the escaped prisoners have changed the gang name to the Sticky Bandits and are going back into business. They accidently bump into Kevin and that completes the set up for the copy of the first film but in a completely different environment. Booby traps and Kevin’s one liner all thrown in for good measure.

This is an enjoyable film, for a kid’s movie they are pushing their luck with a 2-hour run time but I think they get away with it. Like so many other movies in this list this is a good film but not when compared to the original an original where the main character of Kevin went from being paid just over $100k for the first movie he demanded $4m+ for this movie. So, I guess they had to make it profitable really and they did. It’s a happy extremely violent comedy kids Christmas movies so go enjoy it just this once this Xmas
