Is not the story of a house or the age I lost my virginity or my IQ level but the title of this 2007 movie starring Jim Carrey. It made a modest profit at the box office $77m from a $30m budget and did not hang around that long at cinemas from memory. This scored a whole 8% at the rotten place and 6.4 on IMDb.
Plot is that after reading a book (Jim) Walter Sparrow’s wife give him the booked called the number 23 and as he read everything seems to marry up with his current life. The book explains the number 23 enigma that the number links to all incidents and events and he tried to warn his wife that everything seems true. Walter then believes that this book has insights into his own life and when he reads that the main character of the book kills his girlfriend, he then becomes worried he may do this to his wife. He then starts having dreams about it and he believes its gonna really hit the fan. He goes to a psychiatric hospital but this doesn’t help much and whilst there he discovers that he isn’t who he thought he was and potentially was the author of the book in the first place. Huh! Well that is what he has worked out so must be true. That enough plot for you to want to watch it.
Well I gave 72% because I enjoyed it and that maybe a little of me laughing at it rather than with it. It starred Jim Carrey, Virginia Madsen, Logan Lerman & Danny Huston and the first two names are very well liked by me. Jim for his usual rubber faced comedy and Virginia who was in Candyman. That’s CANDYMAN people!! OK so what I love is stupid things that people do all the time on Facebook looking for things that aren’t there. This movie has them in abundance. We live at number 5 and 2+3 = 5 oh 23!! We live in the 23rd house in the street. If you add up all the numbers in my phone number equals 23. 30 less than days in the week equals 23… Wooo it’s a mystery how you can shoe horn these all in or just start with the end in mind!! That may very well be why I was the very people that enjoyed this movie but I can also see why so many people hated this movie. The crowbarring of the forced plot and a thin and flimsy plot it is two and the rubber faced man really doesn’t save it but that is the charm and charisma that I enjoyed. It is the desperation of trying to drag the viewer into the plot that I enjoyed, you could say I enjoyed the desperation. But the bottom line here as it is in this review is that I enjoyed it.
