So, you remember the end of scanners when that dude’s head… oops stepped into Wayne’s World there for a second. Well that quote from a completely different movie was about this movie. This was a 1981 horror from David Cronenberg it took just $14.2m at the box office which at the time wasn’t too bad. It launched Cronenberg into the shadows of horror where people are terrified and pay good money to be as well.

Where do I start with the plot of this one? There are scanners in the world and they use super powers of telepathy and telekinesis and psychokinesis and can cause pain and serious damage to others with just their mind. So, a private defence company is trying to use these powers to be harnessed as a weapon and at a demonstration their best guy gets mind attacked by another unknown scanner who makes this dude’s head explode. The company hire someone to track down the other group of scanners and see if they can be used as a replacement weapon, but are they alone and are there any others out there.

The conclusion to this movie is a classic and gets mentioned elsewhere and as already mentioned this shot Cronenberg to stardom having both wrote and directed this movie he gave birth to the body shock storylines going forward. It starred Stephen Lack, Jennifer O'Neill, Michael Ironside, and Patrick McGoohan and was a gritty reasonably low budget but intriguing futuristic movie. Its another good film that gets the Slady seal of approval.
