#321 - Muppets Take Manhattan - (72%)

This is going to have to be a much shorter take from me in terms of the plot as this is a Muppets movie and in depth integrated intwined twisting plots of murder and intrigue the muppets are not. There is an appearance by the Legend that is John Landis and Uncle Travelling Matt (if you do not know who that is please feel ashamed and check out Fraggle Rock)

Released in 1984, directed by equally legendary Frank Oz this is a typical early Muppets movie so musical comical romp with songs and laughs a plenty all rolled into a happy ending. I’ve just realised I have explained all muppets movies in one sentence. Does that make them bad? HELL NO!! these are great the old ones are classics and the new ones hold a grip on me that I still love many of them to this day. Next question I hear from you, why you give it a 65% score then. Well as a horror buff I have a certain reputation to keep and this is probably my least favourite of them all. Doesn’t mean I hate it but it’s not as good as some of the original and fell between the gap between when I was a kid and being a grown up returning to the movies to check them out.

The plot revolves around the muppets putting on a show in a theatre in Manhattan and with everything going along perfectly the producer turns out to be a con-artist and is arrested. Kermit shows his frustration out on his fellow Muppets so the rest of the gang decide to go their own way and make careers for themselves. Kermit continues to try and make the dream come true and Miss Piggy gets jealous when she spots Kermit in the park with another woman. Miss Piggy had secretly stayed behind to keep an eye on her man. I mean Frog! (A pig and a frog…equal slippery bacon) sorry my brain just went off at a very strange tangent. So, Miss Piggy attempts to retrieve a stolen purse and blows her cover the new team gather some momentum over the show and then Kermit has to bring all the gang back together to get this show on the stage. I think I lied with the short plot sentence at the beginning of this.

This is an enjoyable movie and given the right time to watch it may be a really good way to spend time with your kids as it doesn’t have blood gore bad language or complete boredom for the grown-ups it’s a nice pleasant little story that is ninety odd minutes of fun and merriment yes there is better out there but not many. Enjoy!
