This is the classic 1967 version I am talking about here not Eddie Murphy or that Iron Man bloke. This is the Rex Harrison musical extravaganza that is or was Doctor Dolittle from the 60’s. Now this is a well-loved movie by parents and children alike. It also had some original songs such as My Friend the Doctor, Doctor Dolittle, I Think I Like You and the memorable Talk to the Animals. This film had the Pushmi-pullyu and the pink sea snail. So why am I hyping this great movie up because it has 6.2/10 IMDb rating with Rotten Tomatoes score of 30% and Metacritic 34% and here’s something you may not know this movie bombed at the box-office. Costing $17m to create it recouped $9m back from cinema goers.

The plot revolves around the country basically hating and mistrusting this animal doctor. He is feared and whenever he helps an animal the owners think he’s up to with craft. He is sent a pushmi-pullyu to raise funds to support a circus but then gets chatting to a performing seal who is desperate to get back to sea and be reunited with her husband. The doctor hatches a plan to aid her escape and takes her dress as a woman out to sea where he drops her into the ocean and freedom where fishman spot him and assume he’s murdered this woman and disposing of the body. Dr is accused of murder and is found guilty so does a running and leaves to make an expedition to try and find the Giant Pink Sea Snail. Meanwhiles the animals left behalf hatch a plan to clear the doctors name.

So everyone I speak to, loves this classic movie as it’s a classic it maybe a bit crusty around the edges now but it is still as good today as it has been so I was as surprised as any to hear that it died at the box office and also hit the first death nail of the musical movies as well so that era started to decline as well. It is in my opinion a good film so go enjoy it.
