This 2000 movie did make a profit at the box office which maybe a surprise to you. It starred Jeffrey Donovan, Kim Director, Erica Leerhsen, Tristine Sklyer, Stephen Barker Turner and grossed $47m at the box office and the film was made on a budget of $15m which is a tidy profit in my opinion. I will get to my opinion of this movie later other opinions are not 71% generous like yours truly. For example, Amazon (who’s trying to sell this!) 2.8/5 then IMDb 3.9/10 and 14% on rotten tomatoes.
Maybe the fact this was given the greenlight after the success of the first movie in 1999 so within a year this movie went from idea to screen which may explain why it made a profit following the originals success but rushed out wasn’t critically seen anywhere near as well as the first movie, shall we move onto the plot
You are told that this movie is based on actual events that followed the real events of the first Blair Witch Project. OK. This movie uses actors in the roles of those directly affected in the story. Basically, people are taking advantage of the Blair Witch with them selling twigs tied together and rocks from Burkittsville Woods as well as multiple tours taking people into the woods. Many of them also has a camping night stop-over in the woods where the Blair Witch Projects tapes were found. One particular group go along with tour guide Jefferey (Donovan) Patterson who takes three girls and a guy on the tour of the woods. The group comprises of a Goth who loves the idea of scary shit going on in the woods. A wiccan witch who is on a journey of discovery to prove that the witch was not bad and finally a couple who are researching the myth of the Blair Witch who have brought their research along to add to their notes and have reference points should it be needed. They walk the same route through the woods as the first film and then have their planned nights stayover camping within the grounds of what would have been Rustin Parr’s house. What could possibly go wrong. As the camp is coming together another ‘rival’ tour stumbles upon the camp and they convince them to go to coffin rock for the night instead. They then spend the evening drinking and getting high. Waking they are covered in small white floaty stuff looking a bit like snow but they are not sure what it is. Turns out they all have a complete blank on what the hell went on and decide to return to Jefferey’s home to watch the footage of their video cassettes that were found buried under the ruins of the house. That is when the shit hits the fan with in fighting between the group, suspicions of someone being the Witch and a missing section of the night from the camera’s recording as well. If they do piece it all together is that going to answer questions or just make more.
Well I hyped this plot line as I probably knew it better than the previous two cartoons. Now this should have been the second in a trilogy of Blair Witch Movies and this probably killed it off. The third movie didn’t actually happen they left this to fester until someone remade the original movie again [no don’t bother]. So, the question on your lips is why the hell have I given this car crash of a movie such a high rating when the rest of the sane world hated it. Well because I brought this on video way back when and it unlike the theatrical release they (whoever they are) had added little touches to the movie that made me go back and watch it again and again by tricking me into thinking there were ghosts in the middle of every scene children looming in the background or in shadows of doors. Words appearing in flowers and carpet and gravestones made me see more and more each time. So, the film and the plot are probably worthy of the low scores but the effort I’ve put into this movie means it gets more from me. And I know where most of the little bits are so ask me and I’ll tell you the sentence from all the words that appear in this film.
