The second and as far as I remember the final Happy Feet movie, it was received very well by critics and made a modest profit from its estimated huge budget of $135m it made around $150m to $160m (gross) worldwide. That I am guessing is not enough to see this movie reach a trilogy.
Mumble has a had a son called Erik. Nowt wrong with Erik as a name for an Emperor Penguin especially when the dad is called mumble. Anyway, the penguins are now a singing and dancing group down in the Antarctic barren lands. Erik cannot find his dancing touch and is struggling with growing up in the group. Beyond that there is an even bigger threat looming not only for the penguin colony but the wildlife there as a whole. Encouraged by his dad to find his talent Erik is oblivious and keeps searching for his calling meanwhile a massive iceberg has collided with the home and created a wall trapping the wildlife within the walls. Now Mumble must rally the tribes (stealing from 10,000BC huh!) to find a way to safety but could ‘Man’ help?
This is a beautifully designed animated movie that kids and adults love a like. The cast is full of big names - Ava Acres, Elijah Wood, Hank Azaria, Robin Williams, Sofia Vergara, Alecia Moore, Meibh Campbell, Lil' P-Nut, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Hugo Weaving, Richard Carter, Magda Szubanski (she was in Babe alright) and Anthony LaPaglia (he’s from Without A Trace). Although not quite pulling at the heart strings as much as the first movie this wasn’t bad and the kids love. It helped turn my son into a penguin obsessed monster for many years adopting one for a few years as well. This is a good movie well put together but I can tell you what this film is not. It’s not the original which is probably why it didn’t do as well as expected and there hasn’t been a follow up.
