#345 - Bride Of Chucky - (70%)

Charles Lee Ray the Boston Strangler returns to the list again as Chucky returned for his fourth outing into cinemas across the world. Again ignoring the selling of the film with marketing the movie doubled its budget (which is normal par for the marketing budget to sell a film into theatres). Released in 2003 and set half a year after the events of Child’s Play 3. This film not only ditched the number 4 tag but also ditched a lot of the creepy business and played a lot more for laughs. It has to be said that this a much better movie than what followed it with the seed but for me will never be as good as the original 3 movies and in particular the first one.

This movie see’s the return of Brad Dourif’s voice as Chucky but he joined with by the unique tones of Jennifer Tilly who is Charles’ former lover and accomplice of the serial killer. She bribes a cop to give her the doll from the previous murders as it was uninteresting evidence in the case (apparently). After taking possession of the doll she kills the cop and believes that Chucky’s soul is still present in the doll so performs the voodoo chant to bring him back into this world. She believes it’s unsuccessful before Chucky burst back to life by killing her ‘friend’ which really gets Tiffany (Jennifer) going.

She is disappointed to discover that the ring left by Charles wasn’t an engagement ring but just a ring he stole and gave to her. Slady tip for you never piss of a psycho killer no matter what. She is pissed at him and locks the doll in a playpen and gives him a girl doll as a way of mocking him. Chucky kills her so she has to possess the doll that she had just brought him. Now there is two psycho dolls on the loose.

The story progresses to a young couple that have been paid by Tiffany to take the ‘two dolls’ to New York. These youngsters (the girlfriend is played by a young Katherine Haig) are pulled over by her uncle who plants drugs on them and keen not to be hindered the dolls kill anyone standing in their transports way and trust me they love a good murder on route. The kids become aware of the dolls and the usual big fight conclusion takes place.

Ok my view is that this is a good movie that has nothing wrong with it. If you are a chucky fan then you will enjoy this movie. If you are wondering why I went into more detail on the plot of this one without a spoiler alert then you don’t know the chucky movies do not need a spoiler as once you have seen the first couple you know where this is going to end up and you don’t mind you just buckle up and enjoy the ride or you don’t like these movies. I like Chucky I particularly appreciate the one liners from Brad that has carried this character through five movies that I am aware of!
