#352 - FernGully (The Last Rainforest) - (70%)

Writer's picture: MyersMyers

This may be written in black and white but this is the greenest film we have seen in the list so far. This is about a rainforest (can you guess where this is going already?) which is populated by fairies who believe that humans are extinct as they have never been spotted in years thanks to Hexxus who had driven them away. Hexxus is a dark spirit that had been captured and imprison in a tree by one of the elder fairies named Magi. Crysta is apprentice to Magi and heroine for this movie as she goes investigating in an area of the forest not been before and bumps into a human. A logger no less and shrinks him in an attempt to save him from a falling tree. After shrinking down to next to nothing she now doesn’t know how to bring him back to his normal size. So, brings him back to the other fairies, meanwhile the loggers are happily cutting down the forest which includes the tree keeping Hexxus prisoner. He is now loose and the fairies have to contend with the dark spirit but the loggers as well as get this logger back to his normal size. How ever will they manage it?

Released in 1992 this movie spawned a sequel and scrapped a profit at the box office but I am no doubt saw a higher turnover at home cinema type products. Any movie with Tim Curry will be good in my eyes as he can turn his hand to anything and is blooming good at it as well. This follows in that way as it is an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon with the kids.
