I will start this review with the general plot of this one and then give you why it only mustered up an 68% rating.

After travelling to Mexico to pick up drugs a group of five are driving to a concert and decide to pick up a hitchhiker and anyone who’s watched a horror movie ever knows you never pick up a hitchhiker. In this case the woman is clearly distressed and stumbling around the middle of the road, so the group decide to pick her up. She is making no sense and babbling about something they couldn’t understand she then pulls a gun out and shoots it into her mouth.

They drive to a diner and try to call the police but are told that the police officer is at the mill so drive there only to be told that the Sherriff is at home probably drinking. The group are split up as each one tries to find a phone and is lead off to unpleasant scene. Different members of the household are knocking this group off and various chases and gory scene follows gory and chase scene and I won’t give complete spoilers here as I am trying to give my opinion and not just tell you the story. I will stop there and move on.

I remember watching this for the first time back in around 2004 as the film was released in 2003 and I watched in on the DVD. The big issue with this film for me was it was a remake. Its like someone giving you a DVD of a football match and as they hand it to you says the team in red scores in the 23rd and 78th minute with the team in blue scoring in the 15th, 50th and then the winner in the 83rd minute this was a great game enjoy it. This is how this movie felt to me as I knew the result before the end of the film which made me not want to bother with it. The scares and gore were there and would be probably be a good movie but I knew it and I also knew that it would never be as good as Tobe Hooper’s original. My bias kicked in well before the end of this movie and to be fair I was preadjusted against the movie long before hitting the play button and getting comfortable. I think I am talking myself into going back to watch it again knowing that maybe I should give it another chance. Until then it remains not a bad film with a 68% rating. NEXT!
