Ricky Gervais, Tim Curry, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Laurie, John Cleese, John Hurt, Pip Torrens, Rik Mayall and Olivia Williams. Now these reviews are not normally just a list of names but this cast is impressive to me and there are many names here that I love. So do not ask me why a cartoon is ranked at 68% as I will slap you. I won’t drive your house like the other threat I had in one of these reviews but I will store it to memory and dish it out the next (or first time) we meet.

This is animated, as it follows the story of a pigeon during the war and training real pigeons would have just taken forever just to train them to speak and fly at the appropriate time. So, in wartime England the Army is looking to recruit pigeon as couriers mainly because as an evil hawk is killing all the carrier pigeons. The movie follows an a-typical World War II movie. With the small but determined hero who bumps into a hustler trying to escape some bullies that he just hustled so to try to escape decided to sign up with our hero. They join a band of other pigeon to form ‘F’ troop and go through training before they are ready to join up with the war effort. They end up meeting with the villain of the piece in one of their first outings and have to use all the skills developed when training to outfox the cunning Hawk.

This tells a typical World War II story and can help younger members of the family understand what happened in that War. How it affected those involved and can be a good Segway into speaking about why we wear poppies every year. This maybe a light hearted and fun movie but it does tell a story that could mirror so many actually stories from that war. The cast is a who’s who of British & American Actors and you cannot go wrong with Huge Laurie and Jim Broadbent in the same movie let alone John Cleese, Tim Curry and Rik Mayall who are great just on their own let alone when they are working together.

Is this a classic? well probably no but is it a good movie? yes! You would you enjoy it and I recommend it, well that’s a yes as well.
