Unsurprisingly this is the third movie in the Alien story it follows on from Aliens as the spaceship that Bishop (well half of Bishop), Hicks, Ripley and Newt escaped on is forced to send the surviving crew off in an escape pod to keep them alive. Unfortunately, a pesky alien got itself onboard and killed nearly all the actors they couldn’t afford to bring back to the story when enticing Sigourney Weaver back in the role of Ripley. It instantly annoys the fans of the last movie by killing all the survivors off that they had grown to love just to get us into this movie. It also shows that Ripley has been impregnated with an alien as well so straight off the bat we the viewer knows they are all dead.
Released in 1992 it grossed upwards of $175m at the box office and it tells the story of Ripley as she is the only female in the male dominated penal colony of double Y chromosome which basically means they are all guilty of having a compulsion for Anti-Social Behaviour. They have no weapons and are unaware that a face hugger has changed it diet and gone after one of the victims oh sorry I mean characters dog and produced a doggy version alien. This creature is running around killing everyone but in an important part of the plot when it corners Ripley and another victim - sorry!! I mean character it kills the other one but when about to rip Ripley apart it decides nah won’t bother with this one and heads off for some other victims.
They assume that help will come in the form of the rescue team for Ripley’s pod but they don’t have enough time before the Alien Dog is off on a killing spree. Know why the Alien won’t kill Ripley she asks them to kill her which they agree to as long as they get the doggy knocked off first so they form a Watership Down plan of leading the alien in a chain into the molten metal factory to kill off. Lance Henriksen arrives onboard the rescue ship and they are trying to keep the alien alive and not the people. To the point where they are trying to capture Ripley rather than let her kill herself. So, crossing all spoiler alert rules that is the story.
It’s not a bad movie and has a great sprinkling of British actors who populate this colony. If Hollywood has realised something its that Britain keep producing fantastic actors and they mop them up and chew them up and spit them out many times over. I think again that this is standing on the shoulders of giants and it comes out as Meh its alright where I really wanted it to be YEAH another classic alien movie with a rip roaring thought provoking story and many different aspects to contemplate where this one has some interesting ideas they don’t make much sense to me in this day and age. Some will hate me for 66 rating others will see that as very high! But this is my score and my list so. *raspberry* and Jog On!!!!
