Bruce Campbell returns to my list as the main character in Maniac Cop which is a 1988 story which also see a return to this list for Tom Atkins (see Halloween 3 & The Fog). It could be mistaken for yet another eighties slasher movie and there’s a good reason for that. It was panned by critics and bombed at the box office. There is a bit of a cult following for this movie and having BC in it makes it a big plus in my mind.

The main plot is that there is a murderous killer on the lose that is dressed as a police officer in New York City. The police try to hide that fact from the public as a killer cop could cause a panic but the story gets out and people are then terrified of all police officers making them all a target for revenge attacks. Jack (Bruce) is a cop whose wife believes he may be the killer as he is acting suspiciously. She follows him and it turns out he is not the killer but he is having an affair with another police officer. His wife is killed as she flees the motel where she caught her hubby in the act. This leads to my old fave Bruce erm I mean Jack being blamed and investigated for the murder. The real killer is out there still whilst Jack now has to find the real killer to prove his own innocence. I think if Bruce Campbell was not in this film, I would not own it and love it so much. Seeing a young Bruce acting is heart out is a joy to believe. It is very much an eighties movie and has many aspects of a classic 80’s horror themes which are evident in particular scenes.
