This is one of those movies where they have remade a classic, a classic that I loved the 1960 Alfred Hitchcock’s terror. I have to agree that the original Psycho movie is Black and White and dated, very dated the special effects are no longer that special but for me they hold up. It is called a classic for a reason it is a great film, delivering suspense mystery and spooky fear in high dosage.
So, to steal my own words elsewhere on these reviews they have attempted to stand on the shoulders of giants to remake that movie. What is a common theme for me is LEAVE IT ALONE!!! Jeeze when do these people learn. The story is identical and they try to make this a shot-for-shot remake of the original, which begs the question why bother? Again, I cannot answer that but they did and I have it in my collection, so here’s the review. This was released in 1998 and they must have been bored in 97 to come up this this idea.
The plot is not close to the original it is identical, as mentioned they went for a shot for shot approach, so this literally is a remake. The story follows a woman stealing money and running off. After becoming tired she decides to spend a night in a motel way off the highway. She is met by a nervous man terrified of his over baring mother; they spend some time together before she settles into her room. She goes for a shower and doesn’t return alive as mother has other plans. This sound familiar well it’s the same but in colour so this gets an initial rating of 62% which I feel may be revised lower. That about all I can say about this film. My opinion is if you want to watch Psycho movie then pay for a rental or even buy it yourself it will be better than watching this one.
