#49 – The Last Remaining Movie In This Franchise (88%)

The Harry Potter movies conclude with the eighth and final edition. In my humble opinion was always going to be the biggest story in the franchise and probably deservedly so. This was released in 2011 and directed by David Yates with a joining and returning cast of thousands (OK exaggeration) Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, John Hurt, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, David Thewlis, and Julie Walters. And breathe. This is the conclusion of the conclusion and had a combined budget with the previous part of $250m but this section only went on to make $1.34b. If was a fitting conclusion to an epic story of movies that gripped not just a nation but the whole world. It was even liked but both the other critics but as mentioned before IMDb will never go above 9 so it scored 8.1 out of 10 from them and very creditable score from Rotten Tomatoes of 96%. It won many awards and saw the death of many and various characters, but I’ll be avoiding any spoilers which will be very difficult to cover the plot.

The story begins where the other concluded with the burial of the victim of the conclusion of the last movie. The trio ask for the support of Griphook the goblin to get them access to the Vaults of Gringotts Bank to break into Bellatrix Lestranges vault to destroy the Horcrux they believe is inside. They get into the vault but getting back out again proves a much, much bigger challenge. Using the trapped dragon with its walls they escape to Scotland. Harry has visions of Voldemort being angry at the theft of the vault and realises that another Horcrux is in Hogwarts and linked to Rowena Ravenclaw somehow which isn’t much to go on when they go there to find it. Hogwarts is now under the control of the Death Eaters with Snape in charge with Two evil sidekicks running the halls and corridors by fear and violence. Once arriving more of the story happens before Voldemort realises Harry is there and forms hordes of wizards outside ready to smash their way in and kill Harry once and for all. This all set up the Battle of Hogwarts and the epic conclusion of the story with more than one shock in store for those who haven’t seen it yet.

The fact that a Harry Potter movie is in my top 50 should speak volumes about how much this franchise has won me over and this is a fitting conclusion and good interpretation of the book which was equally enjoyable. This is a good movie for HP fans and those not so keen as well. There are epic battles and plenty of shocks along the way with the three heroes put the test to get the end of the movie alive and not everyone does. Good and Evil the results of fights and battles have that effect on people so prepare the younger ones that this is not the light and fluffy movie of the original one. This is a much grittier story and a very gritty ending to an epic eight movie series and brings the story to a conclusion. I know this picks up many elements of the previous movies and if you watched these as and when they were released you have watched the youngsters grow up into the young adults which makes the nostalgia of the whole thing just that little bit more emotional to the end of the enjoyment that this series has brought to millions of children and if they’d admit it adults alike. If you haven’t watched or know Harry Potter, please give it a chance and the mushy children’s story begins exactly like you would expect but the story wanders through a decent into the darker elements of the story to a point where this epic battle concludes the story and many of the characters as well. Go try it for yourself.

Up next and to completely give it away, is a movie where my nickname comes from and I won’t explain why but I will say this has five names that will prick my interest wherever I hear them but I will give you those five names on the next review.
