I admit this will be a difficult review for me to do. Due to, the fact that I did not want this film to be made. After seeing the original, black and white comedy, made on a shoestring, with quality of writing, sheer determination and drive from individuals to make something that was fantastic. Is where I thought that should end, it's not easy but I have to admit I was wrong, this is a fantastic film. Released in 2006 this sequel to the 1994 original movie, Was made on a budget of $5m, just like the original this made a profit at the box office it returned $27m. Again, directed and written by Kevin Smith, whilst being produced by Scott Mosier. It saw the return of the main characters from the first film, so it starred Jeff Anderson, Brian O'Halloran, Rosario Dawson, Trevor Fehrman, Jennifer Schwalbach, Jason Mewes, and Kevin Smith. From a critic’s point of view they didn’t like it as much as the first with a 7.3 from 10 from IMDb whilst the Rotten Tomatoes people gave it a 64%. Onto the plot? Oh, ok if you insist.
Set 10 years after the events of the first film, Dante goes to open a quick stop to discover it is on fire. Randal had left the coffee pot on after closing the night before. as a result of the shop burning down both Dante and Randal begin working at Mooby’s fast food restaurant. A year later Dante is planning on leaving this job to move to Florida with his fiance Emma who has organised for him to have a position within a family business. Not only a position but a home to live in for them both. Realising that his best friend is leaving, Randal becomes resentful towards the couple. Meanwhile Jay and silent Bob have moved from the burnt down building as well and now sell their wares from outside the diner. Becky the manager of the diner arrives to see Dante off on his last day. They had had a one night stand a few weeks back and when Dante confesses to not being able to dance, which is terrifying him about his wedding in Florida, just like in the first movie she takes Dante up to the roof to teach him to dance. They danced together and ‘in the moment’, he confesses his love for her and she confesses to being pregnant to him. If that's not enough of a plot for you, Jay and silent Bob have become Christians and have gone through rehab and are sober and no longer take drugs. But they still sell them though. Most importantly and hysterically Randal has also organised a special going away present for Dante.
I will let you watch and workout the rest for yourself. As always with Kevin Smith this is a crude, rude, dialogue heavy, extremely funny, comedy which becomes very close to the mark on more than one occasion. Pillow pants. Kinky Kelly and the Sexy Stud. It follows another Kevin Smith trait of discussing other movies, such as the argument between Star Wars and the Lord of the rings and the future prospect of a live action version of the Transformers. new characters have been introduced which do bring more humour to the film and Kinky Kelly scene was cringe worthy but still hysterically funny. if you like Kevin Smith films you're going to love this one, if you kind of don't mind Kevin Smith films then you're going to love this one, if you enjoyed clerks then you're going love this film. There are lots of reasons to like this film meet challenges sentimental reflections on the past and does so with humour and crudeness to be fair, but it is so funny and so worth a watch if you haven't seen it, go enjoy.
Next up and give it away completely is the third movie of eight and the 7th in the countdown of all of the movies the appear on this list...
There’s only one Return and it’s of the Jedi, not the King!
