This is a 1994 American comedy about two idiots on a road trip. Directed by Peter Farrelly and starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels with appearances of Lauren Holly, Karen Duffy, Mike Starr, Charles Rocket, and Teri Garr. Made on a budget of $17m it went onto to gross $247.3m at the box office. Released in December this movie has little connection with Christmas likewise with the cartoon spin off or the sequel or the prequel. It took me some time to get around to the sequel and I don’t think I have seen the prequel. The other critics are similar in opinion with IMDb gave this one a 7.3 out of 10 and Rotten Tomatoes a little less with a 68%. Obviously, I enjoyed it much more. I should get to the plot which is really a secondary element to the movie beyond the in your face stupidity and humour.
Harry Dunne and Lloyd Christmas (oh there’s the December reference ignore what I said up there). Sorry distracted there Harry and Lloyd are two equally dumb and dim men living together in Rhode Island. They both go from job sacking to job sacking and are struggling to make rent when just before being fired as a Limo driver Lloyd had picked up a case from his client when she got on a plane to Aspen he took it home to work out what to do with it. They decide they should take it to Aspen and give it back to her so they take their dog car (Harry’s last job was a dog groomer) across America to return the case. What they didn’t realise was the case was full of money left behind on purpose for a group of gangsters to take as ransom money. They have just wandered into the middle of something they shouldn’t of. Now the mob are on their tail to get their cash back, soon followed by various other groups that they have upset on their journey. There stupidity causes most of the issues but it also brings them some fortune also. I think that’s all you need.
When a movie makes me laugh out loud then it should be on my list somewhere. This movie had me laughing out loud to a sound affect and I will tell you which one as well. The scenes is when Harry and Mary are out in the snow and Harry grabs a great lump of snow to form a snow ball and Mary stops looks at him and smirks a smirk that would suggest she wasn’t expecting it to actually follow. It cuts away when boof! the snow hits and I couldn’t hold the laugh in at all. There are many other things to laugh out at within this movie when the gangsters cut of the head of their pet Budgie they sell the headless bird to a blind kid. You realise that this is not an act of evil (which it is) but more of ignorance and stupidity. They don’t know better. This is just silly from start to finish with a plot thrown in to mix it up a bit. This is another movie you can switch the brain off and sit back and just laugh. Go enjoy!!
