The 3rd and final act of the original trilogy and released in 2009. This movie is 4th on my subtitled [non-English] movies. Created on a budget of $5.3m it went on to make $43.5m at the box office. Starring Michael Nyqvist, Noomi Rapace, Annika Hallin, Lena Endre, Anders Ahlbom Rosendahl, Hans Alfredson, Jacob Ericksson, Sofia Ledarp, Mikael Spreitz, Niklas Hjulström, Lennart Hjulström, and Georgi Staykov. Directed by Daniel Alfredson it brought the millennium trilogy to a conclusion, before the fourth movie. Mixed reviews from the critics again but the opposite to recent movies in this list with IMDb giving it credit with a score of 7.3 out of 10 and Rotten Tomatoes being a bit sniffy with a 54%. I will dive straight into the plot with the intention of not giving away any spoilers.
The no spoilers role will be very difficult with this movie, mainly because it is the conclusion of a trilogy and a mystery story to boot. Beginning at the end of the last movie computer hacker Lisbeth is airlifted to hospital to recover from the... incidents of the end of the last movie. Hold up in hospital she is told that she is to face trial for murders but with help of Mikael Blomkvist and a doctor she is given extra time at the hospital to firstly recover and then plan some form of a defence for her case. Meanwhile an old enemy from the first movie is rising up against her as part of the case as well. Lisbeth hires Blomkvist sister as her lawyer and Mikael finds himself in hot water whilst attempting to find supporting information for Lisbeth’s case. Remember no spoilers so – the big blonde bloke from the previous movie is now at large and a runaway fugitive who could also make up rubbish to have Lisbeth sent down and could be a plea bargain to free himself. Meanwhile the viewer is finding out about a secret organisation within the Swedish government called the ‘section’ who may have something to do with some of the incidents that have happened recently.
As mentioned, this is the conclusion to the story which has run for three books and in this case three movies and it ties everything together perfectly. There is a conclusion here that was [for me] perfect and when I heard about the fourth movie I was not impressed (although I did actually enjoy it, once I gave up and saw it). There is a fitting end for nearly all the characters involved in the story and some unfitting ending for some others. This is the glorious end of the story that started many hours ago that had some very close to the mark imagery and some story that takes your breath away and cheer with the successes of this factionary characters. If you haven’t seen any of these movie’s then please ignore the fact I like the English speaking version and watch these three Swedish version. They are raw and in certain aspects cheap or poor in places what they do, do is depict this story perfectly and better still go read the books as they are fantastic. Easy to follow although the second dragged a bit, with a complete unrealistic aspect to its end. Which is forgiven by the story of the first and the conclusion. There we go I am done the here with a strong recommendation to gives these a go.
From the deep mystery stories of a Swedish mystery writer we move onto complete madness from a movie which is completely summed up in its title.
