Harry Potter’s story comes to a conclusion with the final book turned into a movie but hang on we could split this is two and make double the money? Oh well that makes perfect sense then!! The first half of the final chapter was released in 2010 with the conclusion as whole year later. This movie took the story of the first half of the book and brought together many of the actors associated with the previous stories with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Brendan Gleeson, Richard Griffiths, John Hurt, Jason Isaacs, Alan Rickman, Fiona Shaw, Timothy Spall, Imelda Staunton, David Thewlis and Julie Walters all appearing in the movie. Unsurprisingly it turned a huge profit with the $250m production budget shared with the second part of this particular story it went on to make $977.8m at the box-office. Most importantly we get another entry onto the Tri-Critic Sync Challenge with an outlier of 6 points of difference but its on the board with me being the only difference from a universal 77% from Rotten Tomatoes and 7.7 from 10 from IMDb (but it is on the board!), onto the plot.

The Ministry of Magic is staying strong despite Lord Voldemort gaining in strength and power with Death Eaters joining and returning to his group, well that is what they are saying whether that is true is something else. The ministry is being infiltrated by Death Eaters and there has been killings of muggles. Our three heroes have decided to ignore Hogwarts and continue on their mission of finding and destroying the Horcruxes and thus killing Voldemort. Snape grasses that Harry will have to leave Privet Drive and the Order of the Phoenix hatch a diversionary tactic to aid Harry’s escape. Using Polymorph juice many different Harry’s fly out from the front garden. As soon as they leave they are instantly attacked by Death Eaters but Harry and the remaining survivors get to the Weasley house where the minister of magic arrives with Dumbledore’s bequeathed items for the three. The next day at the conclusion of a wedding the Death Eaters arrive to attack the family and Harry, Hermione and Ron leave to continue their search with a minimal number of leads to follow. The ministry is crumbling meaning the leadership of Hogwarts will be back under threat the whole wizarding world is becoming darker as Voldemort tightens his grip on the world. Hopefully that set up the story for you.

This is going to be difficult to avoid spoilers as this is literally part seven of eight movies and it’s the first half of the conclusion of the Harry Potter movies. Knowing the book this would have been a tricky one to put together as the book is very bleak and desperate as the heroes have literally run out of options of where to search the world is falling under ‘his’ control and people are being tortured and interrogated on a daily basis. This is not a happy story but an important one as it sets up the final movie to play out. You have to take your favourites to the brink for them to shine and bring back those heroes in a bigger and brighter light but this has to be done to reach those highlights. This story follows the book very well and in doing so forces is to be a longer than possibly needed film. When I heard they were going to split the last one into two I thought at the time yes that is fine I fully expected that to be the case as there was a lot to get through. They do it very well and this movie is dark and bleak and an emotional rollercoaster which leaves you on a real bum note to conclude. You are left desperate for the second part to come about to bring some happiness back to your life. You want to know that everything is going to be ok, you long for the happy ending that this film doesn’t have and it doesn’t have it because you are only half way through…

Next on the review list is the second part of Harry… I am kidding not it is not part two. It is in fact a ghost story, a type of ghost story that you tell around the camp fire when camping to terrify everyone into not sleeping for the night. Well rather than hearing you get to watch this one on the screen…
