 Summary

Being completely honest I had a real sense that the boys would be hungover and this would be a complete shit show. Which to a certain point could have really been the case. The first half against a side struggling at the bottom of the table could (Should?) have been better there were some good chances created. One of note from Jack Currie a thunderbolt from the edge of the box that the keeper pushed around the post for a corner. The game appeared quite even but with the Dons asking the most questions. From the shape and sheer determination of Saturday the same line-up (bar a late change of Ronan in for Omar who picked up an injury in the warm up) was not as cohesive as Saturday.

Second half was different as the home side got their shit together and looked to get the goal that would win it. It certainly looked as it a single goal would do it. Despite many chances and some (I mean some) clear cut chances at that the ball remained outside the visitors net. In fact the best chance fell to the visitors who hit the crossbar where it looked like anything on target would have probably been the winner. Again points slips through the fingers of this side as a season of 'what might have been' comes full circle and words seem to have little comfort as a tricky trip to Notts County looms on the horizon (this Saturday) followed by an even trickier looking home game against Gillingham next Tuesday night.

 Summary

There are a few threads I would like to mention here, and I don't want to be negative at all as this game ignited something in me that hasn't been around for a while. This was just a game and for me one that wouldn't mean very much to me. The whole thing is that I do not want this fixture to exist let alone get excited about the prospects of the game. I don't want it and just thinking about it makes me incredibly angry. The difference today was that a last-minute winner made this day so much more enjoyable. Now winning this fixture makes a dramatic difference to the feel of the place, but my feelings don't really change, and the time made me realise that their fans really don't get it. They have been brainwashed like a cult and support that team to antagonise and provoke but not to actually support. Their whole existence is built on a lie from their owner who spread the lie locally and they ate it up. They go to a football team and watch a football match and from the top of the board to the cleaner they are purely going through the motions. All 91 teams in the league are there on merit bar their one and with this organic growth you collect a loyalty of the fanbase. The love of a club comes from the community and its mutual its not a case of here is a club and its free to come watch. Now its cheap tickets then we will make money from you. It is the same as a drug dealer, free taster before you fill the need of addiction then you feed that addiction. That is the plan. However, the main course is a hollow shell and doesn’t fill that desire. The customer’s love is already somewhere else. It could be Arsenal, Spurs, or somewhere else they show up to get a football match. They do not realise the history or why there is a hatred of this club from our club or most of the true football fans in this country. I always think if we could sit down with each of them one on one and tell them some facts they would listen. Then you realise they are part of a cult that struggle to muster up 6500 attendance for games against Accrington Stanley, Newport County or Morecombe. Damn they couldn’t even muster much more than that for our game because it was a Tuesday night. The away end is vast and if the away side is well supported, they can pay and bring as many as they want, because its about money and not support for them. The cult of them needs a successful team on the pitch and given the fact they have two more relegations than promotions in their entire existence it isn’t going to much of a cult following. So, to the fixture where unlike the game at their place where they had a anti-Womble official the referee today was determined to keep 11 on the park and that he did that. Michael Kelly brings down Josh Kelly for a straight red but gets given a yellow, Daniel Harvie committed two red card challenges four yellow challenges worthy of a yellow but somehow was booked a single time. Professional fouls from Cameron Normal and Alex Gilbey were given yellow which would have been worst from another official. Did he have a bad game -no, he wanted the game to flow which did happen it just highlights how poor the official was at their place in January more so.

As for the actual action the real dons dominated the chances in the first half with the only shot on target from the away side ended the first half. The second half continued in an analogous way but with the away side starting to put their passing game together and actually start to create some form of a threat. With neither side taking the chances they created the game seemed to be heading for a point a piece again. Then a flurry of activity as an inch perfect cross from Neufville was met by a charging Jack Currie who watched his header bounce off the crossbar, down to Omar Bugiel who’s diving header put the ball into the side netting. They broke down the other end and finding space in the box Ellis Harrison curled a shot into the bottom right corner to be met by Alex Bass who parried the shot wide. It fell perfectly to Stephen Wearne to win the contest from four yards out and no keeper to stop him, however he fired the shot straight across the goalmouth and the (real) dons cleared. As time ticked away good work from Currie down the right saw the ball worked to Lee Brown galloping down the wing waiting for the bouncing ball to fall kindly, he fired a low cross across the goal mouth. Hitting the first defender who failed to hit the ball away, but he did take all the speed of the ball and take it away from the other defender in the box and perfectly for Ronan Curtis who it helped give more time to think about where he would slot the ball. He decided in the bottom corner of their net passed both players who should not have been on the pitch to win the game with 14 seconds remaining. Queue pandemonium in the home end and on the pitch, just a sheer outpouring of emotion and joy. The hollow one’s have been vanquished and for me I can only hope that they follow my dream, and I will keep that one off my blog for now.

Please do not lose sight of the fact that this is a win against a side we should not be playing and if the corrupt organisation that has admitted it was corrupt but has, as yet not undone anything that was agreed during its corrupt days then this outsider of the football world remains in a league where they stole a league place just so they didn’t have to climb the pyramid like everyone else did. Yet no one seems to want to change that and make them start again like we did, and we started with nothing not a pot to piss in and now we have a stadium that hosts more than theirs does against the same teams and one that can get rocking when it needs to. So, lets enjoy today and move on to me moaning again on Tuesday night.

 Summary

I was just going to type "Fucking Abysmal!" and leave it there however I have slept since then and I have calmed down and started to rationally think about things. The result was that I calmed down and thought that the 3 score for Josh Davison was too low and the score for Bugiel was too high but more importantly I have got to thinking about why I thought the Barrow game was important and why that result has been ruined by the last three.

OK first things first the match then explaining some of the scores above then why the boos at the final whistle. OK this game continued where the last one left off very tidy at the back with chances being created in the final third. The chances were not taken and more on that later. More issues were created in the 40th minute when new loan player Kofi Balmer went down and didn't continue the early reports are torn calf muscle so we were forced to replaced and went with Alex Pearce to protect loan signing John-Joe O'Toole and no I don't know why either. That said the Don's looked decidedly dodgy after that replacement, it almost felt like they limped through to half time before hitting the reset button ahead of returning to the pattern for the second half.

Second half was going along nicely before the 66th minute when three substitutes were brought on and the shape went completely. Worst was to follow with a goal against the run of play, which appeared to break out the panic in the home side. It was all desperation stations from here on chances were snuffed out and the away side left with all three points and the home side left to boo's from the home fans. I'll get there soon enough.

The scores above explained I always try to start with 6 as a par. Sadly there were too many players having their worst performance for an age in the same game. Alex Bass looked nervy and very nearly pushed the ball into his own net and how it didn't go in I don't know. The goal wasn't down to him but he didn't have a huge amount to do in this game. Lee Brown did not have a bad game or any of the back four really. Brown was ducking when the long throw came in for the goal. Ogundere was marking the goal-scorer which is why I was frustrated with him. Bugiel crossed the ball (with a miskick) to beat Bass and tee up Orsi-Dadomo to slot home to an empty net. That dragged Omar down and Tilley had the most unimpressive performance since I've been watching him. Booked in the 11th minute and then was either greedy when team-mates were in better positions and run into cul-de-sac's when given the ball in space. He could have been replaced by any other midfielder and they would have done the same. Kelly was ineffective and is in desperate need for a goal any goal would do but he just needs to notch one before too long. Then we get to Davison who managed to have a point blank volley saved by the keeper, in the second half. Which compounded the ultimate of misses. Yards from the goal-line no keeper in his way and he headed the ball back towards the keeper who missed it and the defender cleared it with ease.

From the optimism of the Barrow home win we have drawn at home and lost the other two. It just starts to feel like the season is going to steadily wind down to nothing again. Am I saying we have to get promoted would be a lie. I would like to see some desire, I want to see this team fight to push up the table. Not the manager telling me but to see the fight on the pitch to win games and not just accept the shit luck that will come our way. We have sold another talent in the January transfer window which in recent years meant waving the white flag on the season and simple accepting what we have. It highlights that the manager was given a new contract in early February whilst two of our better players contract are running out at the end of the season. If the manager got those under a longer contract, then maybe he would deserve his extension. It does seem too early but there you go, it just sums up this club. Anyway we stumble onto the next game away at Doncaster Rovers with scum on the horizon who would have racked up a hatful if we perform that badly in front of goal again. Lets conclude this rant with JJ's favourite phrase...

We go again next Saturday!

Summary

After having my mind put to rest somewhat in the previous home game this was not one to reinforce that new optimism. A game where the away side came with a plan that they would stifle the Wombles and then get something from a set piece or a break away and they duly got their rewards in the second half just after the wombles failed to finish off at least three chances with a goal. The away side ripped up the pitch and took a well taken goal.

The game began with both sides looking to play their games the away side seemed happy with keeping the ball at the back whilst looking for the opportunity to break and the home side was much more direct however created the better chances. Wimbledon failed to take advantage of the many chances created. The away side however, probably had the best chance when David Tutonda blasted over with the goal at his mercy.

Honours even at half-time the breakthrough came early in the second half as a cross from the left was flicked on by Josh and into the path of Omar Bugiel who slotted home. Looking to extend the lead Wimbledon pressed forward and created three good chances that were not taken and breaking up-field Morecombe won a corner. The corner came in which was only half cleared and it was reworked back into the box with a low cross that Chris Stokes beat everyone too and he flicked the ball passed Alex Bass in the Wimbledon net.

The game suddenly become very even with both sides pushing for a winning. After about 10 minutes the game returned to a similar pattern to the first half with Wimbledon pushing for a winner and Morecombe breaking and attacking at every opportunity. Both sides endeavours came to nothing and the points were shared.

The Dons return to action on Tuesday where they need to start winning games other wise they will stop looking up the table and just not bother looking at all.

Summary

Pre-Kick off I said that this was a big game. For me we are on the edge of being safe for the season (from relegation) and the change to deciding what this team actually wants. Do they want to continue to battle and look at the top of the table or accept that this season has been as good as it could have been and pander and drift through the rest of the season. No more effort needed. Sorry but that is what happened last season and frankly it was blind luck that there were two (OK three) teams worse than us that we stayed up. So maybe it was just me that saw this game as an important game. Maybe not the result itself but how much fight this "new" squad had.

Well I need not worried. Very tidy at the back throughout the game, yes they created chances but they were third in table before kick-off and you don't get there without being a good team. We contained them and took some great chances when they presented themselves. The first came from Josh Kelly latching onto a high ball and the keeper rushing out of his box to beat him to the header. The keepers headers header falling to Curtis who thirty yards out he gets its under and volley's its a good 25 yards over the keeper and the two defenders heading back to the line. Superb. More quality was to follow with a corner that was half cleared to Little on the left he sent a subline cross back into the box. He found Bugiel who still had a lot to do when his header beat everyone to land in the back of the net. 2-0 up and the home side saw out the game chances were created (at both ends) but the win never really looked in doubt. Faith is beginning to be restored there are a few tests to come but the hope remains and you never know it might actually just grow a little bit each week.

I forgot to include the Bradford City draw in my initial calculation which then means that this result actually means we are historically statistically we are on enough points to be safe from relegation for this season.

Summary

OK lets just say M4, A404, M40, M25, M1, A421 & A1M close to a three hour drive and for what? 2-0 down inside the first four minutes of the game. FFS!

Both goals coming down the home sides left side meaning it was down to Biler to stop the moves from developing. You could argue someone should have prevented the slide into the net but they worked the ball passed him too easily for my liking. He was out of position and scurried back to cover the right back position only to see the low cross unluckily flick off Lewis and loop over Tzanev in the Wimbledon goal but could have easily been put down as his own goal. Two nil down within four minutes and here is a pick of the Wimbledon defence team below:

Worse was to follow with the exit of Joe Lewis leaving Paul Kalambayi being the sole fit centre back remaining at the club. Lee Brown stepped into the fray on 19 minutes and within 10 minutes or so, some form of determination or composure started to form and we actually broke into the Peterborough United's half. Half-time loomed without too much to talk about.

The second half started with the wombles taking the game to the home side. Suddenly they knew how to tackle they knew how to win the ball they knew how to pass and move and finally looked a threat going forwards. Half chances came and went without the keeper really feeling a huge fear of conceding . The breakthrough finally came from a corner in the last minute of regulation time whether McLean flicked a header over the keeper and into the back of the net.

Peterborough hit the panic button and after 89 minutes of cowering the Wombles looked like they might take another chance and take the tie to penalties. It wasn't to be as another corner prompted Nik Tzanev to come out of his goal area and push up for a corner. Never really getting into the penalty area the home side won possession, broke and scored a simple tap-in to seal the tie 3-1. On the whole it was probably the right result but we would look at elements of the game and say what if this or what if that but this campaign comes to an end once again for another season.

Summary

It's been a long LONG time since I can remember a home win with a goal right at the death. I am not sure I could ask for much more. Oh the opposition that took the piss out of us, when away and winning 2-0 we got Gunther sent off for next to nothing and diving in the penalty area to turn the game on its head an beat us 5-2. Then, to have the travelling fans attacked on the way back to the station and car parks. Well what goes around.

Lets move onto todays action, things were very even and in the 20th minute a high ball from the back saw Davison tussle with the last defender Jordan Bowery when the Wimbledon found himself with no-one between him and the keeper, Jordan wrapped his arms around Josh and hauled Davison to the ground. Having two sent off in exactly that position on Tuesday night the Dons were screaming for blood and they got it as the referee red carded Mr Bowery. Playing against 10 men the Stags showed the Dons how to work with less numbers as you were hard pushed to tell the two teams apart. In the dying embers of the first half. Omar Bugiel returning to the team after a trip to the Asian Cup smashed the ball into the back of the net. Half time job done surely we couldn't throw it away from here could we?

Yes of course we can. After a great breaking down the dons right, Mansfield found space crossed the ball into the box and straight onto Lee Browns chest. He chested the ball in front of himself and then failed to catch up with it, Will Swan not only beat him to the ball he took it passed him. Sizing up he blasted past the desperate Bass in the Wimbledon goal. Not only were Mansfield Town level they were taking the game to the Dons.

It would have been wrong on me not to mention that for me there was another blatant red card as a Mansfield player studs down on a Tilley. The official must have seen the challenge as he booked the player but how he stayed on the field is beyond me. He was to be subbed off soon after and then get sent off out of the ground before the final whistle anyway. Twat. Aggressive twat in fact, oh well.

His sending off came in the 93rd minutes due to his panic in the Wimbledon defence saw the ball flick onto Davis Keillor-Dunn inside the penalty area. Brown wraps his arms around him before releasing him just as Davis fell to the ground. The away side screamed for a penalty. Waved away by the referee. The away contingent went ballistic and incandescent with rage. One who had the largest rage was one Stephen Quinn from the bench throwing his tracksuit top all over the place shouting and screaming. The fourth official took exception to this and asked the match official to give him his marching order.

With their rage bubbling up and tempers frayed things were going to get worse for the away side. After a goal kick the away support [not attacking people in shopping centre car parks] refused to return the ball. Bass ignored this grabbed another ball and continued playing. Then the ball was thrown onto the pitch just as the ball came back to Bass again. Turning the closing down forward inside out he played the ball forward. It was then played long eventually finding Ryan McLean on the goal line. Keeping the ball in play he shot the ball across the box finding new signing Ronan Curtis who flicked the ball up and then banged (ugly maybe) passed the keeper and into the net. A 97th minute winner and the home ground exploded into noise and celebration as we finally beat one of the big boys at home. Well done Dons, with the potential departure of Ali Al-Hamadi on the horizon it is good to say that the points tally is now down to four.

Summary

With what may well be the penultimate away game of the season for me we took the trek to North Wales to watch the Hollywood Dollars Allstars face the Dons with one remaining striker and a makeshift attack. The result was a forgone conclusion before we started. However, the deal remains that should we get the seven points required for my mathematic assumption will be enough to save off relegation for a season before the end of January will see the end of the beard. We need a striker in the window even if they borrow one for a month, if not the beard is safe.

This game is a prime example for why that should be the case. The Dons started like a sprinter the opening twenty minutes was all the Dons but beyond hitting the crossbar there was little for the keeper to do. The wave continued with attack after attack, but little was to come from it. I heard talk that this first half was the best performance from Sasu that they had seen. Things did change and, in the 18th, minute a hefty challenge came in on a Dons player and the referee let the game continued (we should get used to that) and the crowd was lifted instantly. The next 15 minutes was a complete switch as Wrecsam went onto the offensive. Fletcher’s blatant dive in the penalty area was waved away but the attacks kept coming and the game moved into a fascinating battle between two even sides. The last dregs belonged to the home side, but the game remained goalless at halftime.

The second half began with what could be a major turning point as just a minute into the half. A long ball from Currie skips under the home sides captains’ foot and into the path of Davison who was quick to take control and head for the goal. Clean through one verses one Josh Davison beat the keeper and curled the ball the wrong way taking it further and further away from goal. This would turn out to be the best chance of the half for the Dons as the breakthrough was to come for home side in the sixty-first minute. After missing the best chance of the game for the Dons Davison missed his marking assignment as Fletcher (the diver) was left wide open and unmarked at the far post to poke home a corner.

Worst was to follow within 10 minutes as a cross was mis controlled by Jack Currie and it fell for Paul Mullin who was never going to miss from there. A gift and a two-goal lead for such little effort. It felt like a week ago I was saying the same thing. That because I was! There was the usual huffing and puffing but honestly, we never really looked liked scoring so the long journey home could begin for 1119 away fans who were very vocal today for the whole game. It was a shame, but once again another weekend of frustration meaning the tally remains at  7 points.

Summary

What I found weird walking away from the ground was that I couldn’t say I was angry, and I was definitely not even upset, we had lost, and I had expected us to lose. We were playing a team two divisions better than us and we had given a reasonable account of ourselves. OK the goals conceded were poor and they didn’t have to work for them that much, but it was a shrug and a oh well we must concentrate on the league (we do that a lot!). I think they applied the dark arts so much better than us and deserved the win.

Do I feel a bit hollow after the game then yes, I assume that could be a correct assessment. Now why, I ask myself and it’s because I don’t particularly like Ipswich Town fans. This has not started today but a visit to Portman Road many moons ago, there is a definite air of arrogance about them. I have not watched any fans YouTube videos, but I would put money that they were predicting a four or five, nil win and already talking about who they were going to get in the next round. No, they are not my favourite team, but I have nothing against the actual team/club themselves. On to the actual game.

When you are playing against a team top of the Championship, and you are in League two scoring an own goal seven and a half minutes into the game is really not part of the plan. Well, that is what happened, it could be a case of big game nerves and determination of not conceding meant it had to happen. A shot was attempted to be cleared by Johnson who rather than blasted the ball away blasted it towards goal. It wasn’t going in until Josh Davison directed into the bottom corner of the net.

Chances were always going to be few and far between which was the case all game. After calming down and settling into the game we actually made an attack or two after the fifteenth minute. A half chance led to a corner which was swung into the far post and the defender had his arm above his head the ball struck it, and we had a fantastic way back into the game. Reeves despatched the spot kick and we were back all square.

We actually looked like we could be a match for them if our luck held out and we actually some or even one of the few chances that would come our way. Well, that was before we gave another soft goal away. A corner was not dealt with from the near post and the ball flicked up with defenders watching Bass rushed forward to be beaten to the ball by the attacking defender who headed above Davison on the goal line to put Ipswich 2-1 ahead just before the break.

Game was over in the 59th when Pell was sent off for an elbow on a dying player who was getting up when he saw Pell arguing his case and then curled back up in a ball on the floor. Pell got sent off and the game was effectively over. I described him in the first half as a bumper boat spinning around bumping into anything in his way. Wimbledon were given a total of two bookings in this game. Pell got them both. Was nobody else trying? Of course, they were Reeves and Little ran their arses off in this game.

There was a slight glimmer of hope when Amari Little capitalised on an error on the corner of the box and struct a solid volley which was parried away by the keeper. Then in the final minute with an injured Tilley laid on the floor the expert in the dark arts continued playing to tap in a parry from Bass saved shot (there were three lining up to do this).

You could argue they were more professional, but they did a number on a smaller team. That’s why they are arrogant because their team are professional and skilled at the dark arts. Having the need to do that to beat smaller teams sums up the professionalism of the side. It will be interesting their approach when they are the smaller club. Possibly in the next round.

However more of the talk from us was to do with the off the pitch issues than on it. Technically it was both as it was about the players not on the pitch. The rumours flew around about those not there and why. I am sure 80% was made up but that said Joe Lewis was not even in the squad today as he was "ill". The last time that happened the "ill player" transferred to Al-Wakrah for more than a million pounds. The difference this time is Joe isn’t our player and could be recalled at any point in January. Which could also be said for Connor Lemonheigh-Evans and Alex Bass.

Oh, I know this isn’t a league game but seeing as we have played since I thought I’d update the needed count which is now at  7 points.

Summary

He we are the 15th match review of the season and the final one for 2023 what team would step out for the final home game of the year. The one that faced Swindon and tore them apart or the one that laid down for the Sutton match. The answer to that one was hidden for sometime as this evening's 'perfect' match played out.

Starting at 300mph the Dons not only attacked but they took the lead with four minutes on the clock great work down the right and Davison scored a well taken goal. It was the Swindon game back again. Yes! Lets get a hatful and put the team third bottom of the League to the sword.

Colchester should have scored before Davison goal but it was ok as it must have only be a blip. Oh hang on they should have equalised. Whoops but its ok as we are still settling into the gam.. oh it is one all. What the hell? No, no its fine. We will get back on top, we just need to apply ourselves. Oh they should have scored again. This could become an issue as they not only attacked again but they took the lead. This was not a fluke they deserved the lead. The home side had no width no cohesion and was looking like a weird version of the Sutton game. This was different there were sparks of attacking but the lack of width this was looking like one of those games. Then just before half-time a corner was flicked in off the head of Lewis. Now at half time two thoughts passed my mind. One why did both goal-scorers give the home fans so much shit when they scored its not like we were given then any grief beforehand. The second thought was is JJ giving them a rocket in there.

The answer to both for me would never be resolved but the Dons came out fired up. You could see the difference they were closing down early. Snapping at the heals of anyone in possession. The U's were determined to play out from the back and to be honest when they attacked they looked good. The good news for us is the Wombles didn't let them. It was back to the Swindon type dominance and it was all guns blazing. Three second half goals put us (what I thought) out of sight and cruising for another win but more joy followed before the fifth goal as Mr McGeehan who was giving it large after his goal was sent off for a second yellow and a certain defender reminded him of the shh sign and pointed to the exit of the pitch. The offender wasn't very pleased. Oh they got another but we didn't care as the result was done and justice was done.

Onwards to 2024 and a scary prospect of navigating the January transfer window and two of our three strikers going to play at an international tournament. The other positive from tonight was we are now 8 points. from safety.

If the last game reviewed was a straight example of a perfect then this was a perfect example of how not to play as a team. It was weird as we spent the entire game just waiting for the spark or the something that woke the home side up and honestly it didn't really happen.

Starting like a run-away train in recent months just didn't happen it was the Wombles that looked like they had had too many helping of the Christmas dinner the day before and then stayed up too late watching The Morecombe & Wise Christmas Special. They were simply not at the races.

The passing and moving that has been a hallmark of the season just didn't get started if there were shots on goal they were weak attempts that the keeper easily dealt with and it just didn't feel like a derby it felt like one team wanted to dig in and play the game, hard but fair whilst the other just didn't want to play. There was no cohesion the attacked were few and far between and it was lethargic performance at best and the away side deserved their win. You would just hope that for a derby game that there would be more attacking prowess would be on show even a small amount would be better than what was on show today.

The points now needed for safety is 11 points.

Summary

Wow, simply wow! One the most complete performances I have seen. From memory (which is getting old and a bit Swiss cheese like) Swindon didn't get a sniff. There were a few half chances here and there but the Wombles were buzzing today. Getting an early start helped calm everyone down but the Dons were not happy with that they pressed for another and we all felt a bit concerned when all the chances came to nothing more than a single goal lead at the break.

In recent years this dominant first half and not enough to show for it would result in a collapse in the second half. This is what my negative arse was expecting however what I got was a blinder from Amari Little and absolutely no let up from anyone in Yellow and Blue. To a man no one let the side down. The substitutes didn't lower the work rate and an absolutely complete and thoroughly dominant game I have seen in an age finished with a 4-0 score line. Which leads neatly into the required points for the season which now sits at 15 points to be safe.
