BAD FILMS REVIEW (Part 2) - The Extreme French Films - la première moitié...

I feel I should add an additional note, that the movies reviewed in Part 2 & 3 are very Extreme in all aspects of the words and the movies are strictly for adults. I have tried to keep the reviews in check but the base material is deliberately pushing boundaries.

Here we are in part two of the movie reviews if you want the details for reviewing bad movies please read part one. For part two I wanted to do something a bit different and I have grouped films together that was in a particular genre of movies. I will explain what I have done soon but this page is going to be exclusively the French Extreme Film Genre. Having worked through this with added pics the file is too big so I will have to split this into two halves hopefully parts 2 ad 3 before we return to normal.

To my knowledge this genre came about after 2000 and was around for about 9 years maybe longer. This was where the French Film makers pushed the boundaries of censorship with many gory movies that I have seen three of them. One of which blew me away with a horrific story with everything that shouldn’t be on screen that was. It was also an amazing movie that really got me to wanting to see the others, to see if they could stand with it. Unfortunately, prior to that I saw an alright movie that went a bit over the top with its gore effects. The third movie was a gore-fest and had such a weak plot that I ripped wholes in it all night. To the point where the owner of the DVD agreed with me and dumped it. Now almost 2 years later I want to watch it again to review it and he doesn’t have it anymore. So, I will rent that particular film online via one of the popular streaming services. Borrow the other one and of course review the movie I own. That accounts for three movies here namely, Martyrs, Frontiers, and Inside. Seeing as each page will hold a limited number of reviews we will split them. So to begin with I went onto google and looked up French Extreme Movie genre. It gave me a list of movies (probably wiki) - namely - Trouble Every Day, Sheitan, Them, High Tension, Calvaire, Intimacy, In My Skin, Secret Things, Glowing Eyes, and Baise Moi. Not wanted to know much about them before hand I typed each into Amazon and found 5 second hand cheap version and just brought them. Over the past week they have been delivered and I have them here and looking at the covers I think I may have made a slight error in my reading of wiki.

Now these all look like scary gory stuff with the exception of Intimacy which cover suggest a different type of extreme. OK I’ll be honest it looks like a porn film, there appears to be two naked bodies on the front cover. I assumed the pushing of the censorship rule went in more than just the gore direction only - its now a bit late to think I should of got more details before buying them. OK I admit that I am regretting not reading up about each of these first. From the new films I have watched Sheitan (translates as Satan) so far and then read up it was labelled a comedy. I didn't laugh once but I will come to that review soon enough. I will start with what I truly think will be the best of these movies by a mile and that was labelled the most horrific horror movie of the 21st century and its Martyrs.

Just to reminder to you here is the scoring method. I said these were bad in the gory bad way hence this scoring still works.

  • So Bad – Its Fantastic

  • So Bad – Its Good

  • So Bad – Its Funny

  • So Bad – It’s Not Worth Your Time

  • So Bad – It is Simply that - Bad.

  • So Bad – Its Awful

Martyrs (#12)

I have been searching for a way to start this review as I feel (and it is just a feeling as I have not seen many of the movies, I am planning on watching for this section before) that this is going to be the only movie on this section that I actually like. I am going to go a little off piste here and say after a global Covid-19 attack and little human contact. After cancer diagnosis and being locked up and cut up and stuck back together again. Pain puke and I think you get the point. I managed to go and visit some good friends and I will name drop one who inspired this beginning. Rueben West gave me one of his twister ice-creams on a stick and this is perfect for this movie. I will explain this after reminding you all that this is one of (if not THE) gory, horrific, and no-go horror movies I have ever seen. If you are squeamish, don’t like blood, gore, or anything else to be fair DO NOT WATCH this movie or probably any other in this section. That said I will now try and tell you why I like, no love this movie. And it is exceedingly difficult to say that as it’s not a nice movie in any way shape or form.

Sorry I digress, Rue-Bear gave me an ice-cream on a stick, and it was called a twister. Now if you buy these in a box, because they are squished in to ensure that they fit into home freezers that come out slightly squarer rather than round like below.

A true twister of a tale.

How does a square twister explain this movie? I hear you ask well. The ice-cream is in a nice straight line and as you like the icy goodness your tongue goes straight off the edge as the ice-cream has turned 90° to the left. Naturally, you turn the stick to get the next side of the square and again soon after the enjoyment begins you are off the flavour and in mid-air lost to the world. This sums up the movie, just as you know exactly where you are going it turns left and leaves you behind.

Thank you Rue for making this analogy reveal itself to me as therefore I love this movie. Just as you think you got this licked and know the direction of traffic (the story) it changes and makes you rethink the story you just watched. Then it makes you do it again and again and then it just leaves you floating in the mystery of ‘work the damn movie out for yourself’. It does this during the worst horror movie I’ve witnessed but I still rate this movie. If you are tempted to watch this in any way, then please do so but be warned and do NOT read my plot as I will be going into more detail than I would really want to. As I move to the film here is the poster:

The Official Poster.

This is the cover that I really know the best as I have seen it more than the one above.

Here what the cover is too me.

Straight off the bat, do not confuse this movie with the ‘American’ copy which cleaned up the gore and changed the story to give it a much more Disney finish. Which also tried to answer the questions the original left open for the intelligent audience to work out for themselves. This was released in 2008 and directed by Pascal Laugier. The American attempt was directed by Kevin and Michael Goetz released in 2015 and removed those pesky subtitles that Americans cannot cope with. Yes, people outside your borders speak different words than you for the same things!! A little effort and you might find other things that are good outside ‘your world’ as well.

I will go through the plot in a lot more detail than I would like to just to give you details that I didn’t put on previous reviews, but it will ruin it if you do want to watch this later. Meaning a big Spoiler alert. I guess I should watch this again and take notes.

THE PLOT

(With obvious SPOILER ALERTS!!!)

The film begins with a young girl clearly in pain, she is limping with extremely short hair, covered in cuts, black eye and generally not in a good way. She is barefoot and running or limping as fast as she can out of a disused trading estate.

Lucie escapes the industrial estate.

You then see media clips of the police investigation and her moving into a children’s home where she is not settling in well. Before she is finally befriended by a sweet girl called Anna. The mysterious girl is called Lucie and she adjusts to living in the home. Anna is an important support for her, and they share a room.

The police reports found a darken room with a single chair with a hole in it with a bucket below. Chains and bars all around to secure the chains to. Lucie would live there. She would-be force-fed slop of varying colour and water, in between beatings it appears. It is no doubt why she wishes to block this from her memory. Meanwhile in the home.

Anna is questioned by police to see if Lucie has ever said anything that may help lead them to who did this to Lucie. A knock on the door and an orderly enters saying that Lucie has not arrived for dinner. Anna goes off and finds her. That night Lucie shuts the bedroom door and shoves a chair under the door handle to secure it. There is a loud bang when she looks up again the window is open and now so is the door. Lucie looks over the edge of the bed and sees a brief second of something slipping under the bed. She edges over the bed but cannot see anything under the bed. She lays back down to see this creature is already on the bed and breathlessly screeching at her. CUT!

The words 15 Years Later appear on the screen.

We are now in a house where another young blonde girl is being chased. This time what looks like a boy. He catches her and you soon realise that this is brother and sister, and she has stolen his girlfriend’s love letter which although younger she is teasing him with. The father beckons them to the breakfast table where they sit as a normal family discussing his school and both of their futures. The wife/mother of this family has been out repairing the plumbing having dug up a huge pumping system. Which she discovered a mouse was the reason for the shower not being at full power. They sit and argue and bicker like a typical family then all is stopped by a ring at the doorbell. The father goes to answer the front door. He opens it wide and BOOM! A double-barrelled shotgun blasts him through the chest and out the other side. (Yes, this movie has 100% begun). We assume this is Lucie as the hooded figure steps over the body to blast a hole in the mother. The daughter scrambles away and runs to her bedroom. Lucie sits opposite the son who is sat at the table. She asks him how old are you? 18. Do you know what they do? He doesn’t answer and he gets a new hole where his chest used to be. Lucie then turns her attention to the young girl who she realises is hiding in her room. Aiming the gun to the bed she blasts. The girl is hit but scrambles out from under the bed to run. Bam she is shot in the back and that is the whole family done for. Lucie bursts into tears. As the mother is laying lifeless on the floor Lucie asks why you did this to me?

Lucie and the shotgun

Meanwhile a woman (ok its Anna) is in a mini cooper eating a Baggett when a public phone rings close by. Dropping her lunch, she runs and answers the phone. It’s Lucie on the line she explains what she has done and then says she is calling from the house. Understanding the situation more than Lucie, Anna says she will come to her. Lucie is in the house alone, covered in the blood of her victims. She hears the familiar bang of the creature. Going through her coat she only has one bullet left. She loads it into the double barrel. A door slams she turns and fires into the doorframe. No bullets she grabs a cut-throat razor. (Yes, you can see where this is going). Lucie puts her palm in the blood and raises her hand towards where the bang came from and calls to the ‘thing’.

“LOOK!” holding up her hand “I did it!” This is the assumption that the creature that has haunted her since escaping that day will be pleased with her revenge and leave her in peace. Wrong. The naked female shaped creature attacks Lucie, slicing the razor down her back. Whilst screeching and squawking so Lucie hides in a cupboard. In the darkness she remembers back seeing herself tied to the chair and beaten meanwhile in real time the creature has dragged her hand out of the cupboard and stabbed it. (Did I mention this is not a very pleasant movie?).

Anna arrives finds Lucie who shouts that ‘SHE! Is here’” Lucie comes out and meets her. Heading into the house alone Anna is waiting for the creature to attack her. In fact, all she finds is a very bloody house and the bodies of parents and two children, she cries and pukes. Lucie finally follows her back into the house and says that she attacked me worse than ever. Anna dresses her hand and sews up the slices on her back. (and yes, you get this nice and close - up). The girls take the bodies to the shower room.

“Oh, Lucie what have you done?”

“Its them!” Lucie pulls out a newspaper page with a story and a picture of who they are. Lucie lays down and Anna moves the bodies into the ditch that the mother had conveniently dug before. Dropping the bodies down there.

With just mum and daughter to be dumped the mum opens her eyes and screams. She’s not dead this wakes Lucie but Anna convinces the mother to pretend to be dead to be able to give her a chance to escape.

(Those that labelled this a revenge movie, then we must be all done by the half hour mark of this movie. The family are dead 30 minutes into this, and the random creature is still beating the crap out of Lucie, who thought she had done enough to be left alone.)

Lucie is attacked again and needs to be rescued by Anna who locks them both in another room. It is now that we are shown the full history. The creature looks exactly like a woman who Lucie found in the room next to her captivity room. Once when unchained Lucie pushed the guard woman she believes is now dead in the shower, over who cracks her head on the floor. That is the point when Lucie fled the industrial estate, as she ran the woman from the room next door pleads with Lucie to help her escape. Lucie ran rather than trying to unchain her and by the time the police returned the whole scene was clear including this poor woman. Lucie has spent her life seeking forgiveness from her.

Meanwhile Anna is saying to the mum that she will get her as far as the trees and then she is on her own. Unfortunately for both the audience and the mother. Lucie catches the trick and beats the mothers head in with a single handled sledgehammer (The fun just continues!) Lucie is now angry with Anna for helping her and Anna is trying to deal with yet more mess. The creature comes down the stairs. Slices Lucie’s biceps all the way down past the inner elbow joint and forearms to her hands and cuts her wrists. Anna looks up and sees that Lucie is doing this herself and nothing or no-one else is present. Lucie dives through a closed window. In the muddy rain outside looking back at the house Lucie cuts her own throat as Anna watches on in Horror.

Anna now has five bodies to deal with and begins with phoning her own mother to say she loves her and goodbye. When something triggers something, and it highlights a secret panel. Moving the panel Anna finds a secret door and a room beyond. She moves in and there is some kind of a lab with horrific photos on the walls of women in desperate and deadly situations. Very unpleasant to be having their photos taken. Then she finds the trap door and I will interrupt again.

If you are watching this movie this is a really good point to stop and have a think. As you are about to be introduced to the character Sarah and its at this point that I say well done to you for sitting through the first part of the movie. Excluding the promos and production teams little cartoons we are now 50 minutes into this movie. Do not feel ashamed if you collect your gold star and check out now. Absolutely nothing wrong take your prize and go. You don’t need the double gold -platinum award for finishing this movie. You have done enough. You may not want to see the remaining. I give you this option now. As what you have seen so far will be little in comparison to what is about to begin and conclude.

Anna opens the trapdoor, and a ladder falls down a slot to the rooms below with a loud clank. She climbs down and finds a silver shiny room. With chains and a chair with a hole in the middle and a silver shiny metal bucket below. Lucie was right and these are the psycho’s she was after. Going through this room she finds another room beyond where she finds a woman similar to Lucie’s creature chained to a chair. With metal shiny clamps across the top of her head. Completely covering her eyes around her head. She also has a similar contraption around her hips and waist. Chains chink together as Anna undoes them and takes her back up the ladder. Talking kindly to her she puts ointment on to help and then puts her in a bath. Where Anna notices that the clamp on her head are nailed in with U shaped clamps into her skull. Using a screwdriver like a crowbar she pulls the clips out one by one until the headset drops off taking some skin with it. (I warned you, really how many times did I warn you!). Anna goes to Lucie’s body and asks for forgiveness as she has seen all that she has now. She falls asleep next to Lucie and wakes the next morning to screaming. Following the scream, she finds Sarah trying to hack her own arm off with a machete. After pulling the machete away Sarah starts scratching her face on the wall. Screaming she decides to run for it but before she does, she is shot between the eyes.

Meet Sarah

The house is now full of people wearing black uniforms and carrying guns. Anna is hand cuffed to a cupboard and left whilst the teamwork around the house. Dumping Lucie’s body on top of the others including Sarah, they then bury them all.

Anna waits for her conclusion...

Uncuffed Anna is dragged down to the corridor of the underground system below when she is cuffed to a metal interview table where she meets an older woman wearing one of those hat things. See below:

Mademoiselle

We are an hour into the movie now. Sitting down this ladies says that the woman should never have let Lucie escape and that Lucie had done amazing to be able to track them down. The Mademoiselle explains that they take people to the extreme and then they see things from other realms. Asking what Lucie saw Anna tells her. Sarah would have cut her own arm off if left. She explains that this group is seeking Martyrs to find what is beyond, the world is full of victims but there are so few Martyrs. The pictures are from other true Martyrs they reach a point of perfect pain where they breach the other side and can report back to us. We will see if you are one.

The torture scenes begin. Anna is beaten, shaved, fed green gook, beaten, fed brown gook, beaten, pees in a bucket, beaten and repeated. This sequence takes up 17 minutes of the movies time. It doesn’t shy away from the descent into the forced worthlessness that this poor girl goes through! But that is not nearly the end for her, there is much worse to follow.

Finally, once she is completely beaten and lost and completely compliant, she is then taken to a lab where she is skinned alive and (Yep – we get to watch most of this as well) held up on a square frame where she reaches Martyrdom. Mademoiselle is called and spends an hour with Anna who whispers into her ears. Full now with the knowledge of the other world Mademoiselle calls for all members of this secret society to come to the house where she will reveal all the knowledge to them all. And I cannot spoil that bit, now, can I?

THAT IS THE PLOT FINISHED HERE'S MY SUMMARY -

I have deliberately put a lot of plot into this one as I didn’t when I reviewed it before. Every single thing you should never want to discuss or see on screen is in this movie. The torture scene goes on and on and you just feel for this woman especially after being dragged into the whole thing and just trying to do the right thing. This obviously makes her the perfect Martyr, which is the point of the whole film, I guess. This is an out and out horror movie and it fits in with the extreme film group. The difference for me is the story is there, as I said at the very beginning this story keeps turning left when you think you have the route all sorted. I love a film that can do that to me. When I think I have the story sorted and we are going down this nice straight storyline then suddenly it turns left and leaves you wondering what this nice straight line was for? If a movie can do that to me, then simply, kudos to you and I am impressed, even though this ramps up the gore to 115%.

I believe I can cope with (most) gore in a movie if there is a reason. When I think of the possible other movies that will be appearing in this section (I haven’t got hold of any as I type) there are gory movies just for the sake of it. Yes, it’s shocking but if people really want that type of thing they would go elsewhere. A horror movie is more than just a gore fest, you want to be spooked and scared and the gore is an aid to the fear of what these things might do. The gore is not the central point! I have movies that I love that literally has no gore, suspense is so much more affective as scary compared to anything else. Warlock was a movie that had wizards and an evil warlock doing battle with spells and aggression. They then made Warlock 2 which was a gore fest where the direction was more to do with how can we be more disgusting than we just were? Leave it and get on with a good story as to why the gore should have me more scared than I was. Jaws doesn’t have a lot of gore (yes it has some but compared to modern movies – little) Halloween has hardly any blood at all in the movie. Still worked, still scary but not because of blood and bits falling off people. Body shock movies have more right to show the gore as that is the reason for the scares. What a movie doesn’t need is pointless gore just because you can. A great story this does not make!

With this one you spend half this movie going what is this creature attacking Lucie or is this poor girl just going nuts. It plays that line to a time where the reveal works perfectly for the timing of the story. It uses the gore to put you in an uncomfortable place and refuses to let you ‘the audience’ escape from that position for the entire movie. You think this is a revenge movie but that is all done for within half an hour of the kick-off. This movie builds and builds and then knocks it down and takes you in another direction. It just keeps you guessing right up to the point where the ‘cult group’ is gathered for what they have chased for many years. This leaves you asking questions but questions you can answer yourself if you watch again (if you are brave enough) or if you think about what you have been shown and what you haven’t. The story is there from the beginning, but it doesn’t present itself to you clearly until a good hour into the film. Even then you are not sure which way they are going to go with it. Watch it a second time and you see everything clearly straight away. Therefore, I like this gore ridden, sickening horror, sick, disgusting, truly horrific flick.

It starts like a revenge movie but soon changes and goes in another direction, is the mother being alive going to kick off the issues that remain in the next hour. Or is it this or that. You are nearly an hour into this thing, and you still do not have a clue where this is going. This is not easy on the eye, and I would give anyone thinking of watching it a warning prior to hitting play. It is not easy, and it is extremely hard to deal with. Please heed my warning with this one. On the other hand, those other movies in this section I guess I will be saying don’t bother watching anyway, this I am torn between being kind and warn you when saying that this is one of the greatest Horror movies of modern times.

The Verdict -

Martyrs = So Bad – Its Fantastic

Them (#11)

Back in 2006 home invasion movies were not really a thing this has basically grown since then. If this was the first, then hats off to you as you started something. This feels like a low budget movie that plays to its strengths as there are lots of shots where you are the eyes of the terrified looking into the darkness. You spend a lot of this movie waiting for something or someone to jump out at you. The movie claims to be based on true events but which events seem to have remained a mystery some believe it was based on an Austrian couple in Czechoslovakia where this is French and based in Romania. There are Romanian and French spoken in the movie which meant like all the others in this section I couldn’t understand a word of it. With this movie it didn’t matter a great deal as there were not many words spoken in anyway. It is very atmospheric and spooky as the camera work puts you in the eyes of the people on the screen. I will have to watch again to be able to give you a full and detailed plot.

The movie poster (for the cover I have)

THE PLOT

(With obvious SPOILER ALERTS!!!)

We begin on the road with a mum and a daughter driving home. Mum is on the phone to husband and the daughter is being an awkward teen. To the point where mum slaps her mobile phone out of her hand. In a sudden flash mum swerves to avoid something and hits a telegraph pole. Taking account of the situation, when the car doesn’t start, she goes to the front of the vehicle and asked her daughter to start the engine. Still doesn’t start. She shouts to start the engine which fails and then nothing. Literally nothing. Eventually the daughter gets out and discovers that her mother just isn’t there. She thinks she sees something in the bushes and panics and jumps back in the driving seat locking all the doors. She puts her phone back together and prepares to make a call when she is attacked from behind.

Sometimes its just best to do what your mother tells you.

We join Clementine as she concludes the French lesson in Romania and drives home. Passing a crashed vehicle against the side of the road surrounded by police vehicles. Straight after passing that car, she turns onto her driveway and arrives home. Closing the gates behind her. There she meets Lucas who she catches playing games on the laptop whilst he should be working. He switches the game off as she approaches and pretends to have been working the whole time. We then join them for the evening as they eat a meal followed by snuggling up on the sofa to watch TV. As they are falling asleep on the sofa the dog starts barking which has them slightly worried, so Lucas goes outside to investigate calling the dog and it comes to him. Heading back inside they finish the show and head to bed. Clementine (Clem from now on) cannot sleep so goes back downstairs to mark some of the school’s work. Suddenly the phone rings making her jump she appears a bit spooked but heads off for a bath before bed. Lucas is sleeping the whole time.

Where they live is like a mansion. It is huge, very run down and in desperate need of some TLC as every room seems very grubby and in need of redecoration. The doors need painting, and the floors could do with some carpets. However, it is massive with rooms off corridors and even the corridors themselves are massive. The size and the poor lighting make the building spooky just in itself. Let alone what is to follow.

Lucas investigates what is making the dog bark.

Clem gets into bed just before 2am. At 3.45am she is woken by the sound of distant music. She listens carefully before waking Lucas who says he couldn’t hear anything. She realises that someone is trying to get in her car. Lucas goes out to investigate and as he gets close to the car it burst into light as the engine begins. He is worried about being run over but it reverses away and smashes the gate and disappears. They go back inside and call the insurance. They hear bangs and crashes going on and the house power goes out. They go to the board but no joy in recovering the power. Suddenly bright torch lights are shone through the window terrifying them they go and hide in their bedroom when the power suddenly comes back on meaning the clock alarms go off. They head to the bedroom and lock themselves inside. Lucas tells Clem to lock the door behind him as he searches the house. Grabbing a fire poker, he looks around. Causing panic and jump scares a plenty. Until one makes him smash a window resulting in him getting a huge piece of glass in his leg. The smash makes Clem scream to find out what has happened. She looks through the keyhole and the intruder shove’s a screwdriver through it. Lucas comes back and screams for Clem to let him in. As she opens the door you get a glimpse of a hooded figure in the hallway behind him.

To escape Clem heads into the loft.

They scramble into the bathroom and Clem climbs into the loft where she takes her turn to be chased around. Starting with that clicky rattly sound. After a brief run around she pushes the intruder out the window crashing onto the ground below. She leans out the window and sees the body on the floor. As she watches another hoodie stands over the body and then runs to the wall and starts climbing. She runs. Back to the loft hatch she drops into the bathroom, and she supports Lucas to get out of the bedroom. They head through the house and out into the garden.

Whilst in the loft Clem meets a shape.

THIS IS AN ADDITIONAL SPOILER ALERT WARNING -

The last three paragraphs will completely spoil this movie so if you want to watch it now is the time to skip to the next red section.

The fence that finally beats Lucas.

Then into the woods where shrieking voice give chase until they come to a fence. Clem climbs it but with his leg Lucas cannot get over it. Tells her to go and get help whilst he will find a place to hide. Once again, she is chased this time in the woods, clicky rattley sounds again. She escapes and finds her car, climbing in she checks the secret cubby holes where she would leave keys, but they are not in there and she cannot start the car. Meanwhile Lucas is beating one of them to the ground with a massive log. He stares down at his victim, but it looks like a child. His thoughts are broken hearing Clem scream. He heads down a maintenance hole and into a sewer.

The face you make when your worst nightmare appears above you in a dark tunnel.

Lucas finds Clem tied face down with a teenage on her back shoving a bag thing over her mouth. There is a younger boy telling the teen to stop as she cannot breathe. In between this she is screaming. Coming up from behind Lucas attacks the kid attacking Clem and with the help of the other boy after untying the bonds they follow the boy into the sewers maze. They reach a ladder and Clem begins the climb followed by Lucas halfway up the kids pulls his feet making him slip many feet back to the ground. Breaking something, he cannot get back up the ladder and is dragged out of sight. Clem finds a small tunnel and climbs into it; she comes out the other end followed by the boy. She stands and raises a large rock above her head as he slowly climbs out of the hole. Spotting her he pleads with her. Saying that he is trying to help and just wants to play. All we want to do is play he says. He ducks back into the tunnel, and she just drops the boulder next to where he was. She continues to crawl through the tunnels seeing light. Finally light! Reaching the end of the tunnel there is a grate, and she is trapped. She can see cars going past and she reaches and screams for them to help her. One car passes by, and she just isn’t there anymore.

We see a group of kids one with a football rattle walking to catch a bus. They look rough but are friendly with each other. The text completes the tale telling us that the bodies were found five days later, and the couples’ killers were arrested soon after. The ages of the culprits where between 10 and 15 years old and the reason they did what they did was because they wouldn’t play with them.

THAT IS THE PLOT FINISHED HERE'S MY SUMMARY -

I am guessing this would have been one of the earlier home invasion movies and this clearly had a low budget. Saying this was based on true events seems to be a bit of a stretch as no story has been linked to this. There was something rumoured to be similar in Czechoslovakia, but this was denied by the produces/director. Which then moves onto you made it up didn’t your scenario and saying it was based on real events was added to make it scarier. If it worked for some of the audience then fair play to you. Nice try.

For me there were lots of times where the director uses the camera as you seeing through the eyes of the victims. You see into dark corners of the house, then the woods, and then the sewers. It is extremely well lit meaning you feel the fear of those victims looking at shadow trying to make something out. Is that something moving? Is there somebody there? Is there a threat there? Should I be running? This is done very well, and you feel for them. It works this movie just works. It is spooky and eerie, but I tell you one thing for free. It should not be included in the French Extreme Cinema collection as this is not anywhere like the other movies in this collection. There is no pushing of the censors for no reason there is no gore. They could of and it may have made it a better horror movie, but it declines the clear option and continues on the spooky side.

The obvious gory path was when the screwdriver comes through the door it struck home rather than missing the target. That could have ramped up the gore and made this a true French Extreme Movie but no it declines that option and just kept pointing the camera into the darkness. It left this feeling very much like a run of the mill horror movie that was not worthy of its colleges in this group. Here I am talking about a F.E.M (French Extreme Movie) and there is no gore or porn (as I am discovering) the censors were not really that bothered by this movie (I’m guessing) so why is it here? There is only one reason that I can guess at and that is the age of all the nasty ones in the movie. Do they think the youngster may get ideas or it was too much of a shock for everyone involved that they used kids that way? I don’t know but this is very much a run of the mill spooky home invasion movie that could spook people that live in the middle of nowhere without adequate security. Or planning on moving to Romania.

Would I recommend this movie well the short and simple answer is yes! Is there a caveat to that statement? Of course, there is. If you are a true out and out horror fan you may find this movie a little tame in comparison to other movies out there. Is this going to scare horror buffs? No is the short answer. Is there enough in this movie to spook people, yes, I am going to sound sexist here but a girl home alone watching this may find this terrifying. Where a hard-core horror group may find this too easy on the eye. It has a fifteen certificate which will put off some of the horror fans that I know, straight away. This is an eerie movie with lots of shots into shadows and the feeling of not knowing what is going on in those shadows, is unsettling but maybe not enough for a true horror guru to take to their heart. The fact it is in French and Romanian with English subtitles should affect anything too dramatically as there isn’t much dialogue in this movie. The pacing is ok, and the acting is fine there is nothing to complain about this movie and I feel bad for including it in the bad movie list. As the French pages on this blog are a play on the word ‘Bad’ as they are not bad in the terrible way, but they are bad in the gore and blood dripping out of your television screens way. That my understanding anyway and this movie doesn’t cut the mustard either way. It is a middle of the road low budget scary movie. The victims act in a way you would expect people to do. The attackers work in a scary unrelenting way, you would expect for a scary story. It is like a few other in this section it just doesn’t sit well in this place. It needs its own peg to hang its good points on. I for one enjoyed this movie and will find it hard to score it beginning so bad… but that is what I will have to do.

The Verdict -

Them = So Bad – It's actually all right

Sheitan (Satan) (#10)

I ordered a batch of these ‘extreme’ movies, and this was one that arrived first. In terms of a review, I really don’t know where to start as this movie is simply confused. Yes, I had to read them subtitles that the Americans hate so much whilst watching the movie but if I am honest, I am struggling to get up the drive to put myself through this movie again. It isn’t overly gory; the plot isn’t overly difficult to follow although it is a bit confused let alone the audience. There are plenty of scenes that were clearly put in there just to shock and not to develop the story somewhat. No, I will correct that and say there are multiple scenes just put in this movie to shock the viewer as little links together. There is a story there but if I hadn’t read up on it this wouldn’t make any sense. The movie goes on and I found myself thinking that lots of scenes have made me go ergh, but nothing has made me go bloody hell this is a great movie I want to know what happens next!! Or why is that happening? As the film progressed, I was more interested in when it was going to finish rather than how.

Here's the cover of Satan.

THE PLOT

(With obvious SPOILER ALERTS!!!)

The story consists of three boys hooking up with two girls and heading into the country for Christmas. They meet various other people in and around the house and farmland, but the three boys are broke but looking for a good time. The characters are below:

Bart – White kid in a Burberry scarf and cap

Ladj – Black kid with a lots of bunts and a Silver Golf GTI with a knight rider red light on the front.

Thai – Oriental kid, most confident of the three and wants to get his end away. Gets introduced to Eve by Yasmine.

Yasmine – The other member of the group has a thing for Ladj and works in the club gets them free booze and also knows Eve.

Eve – A girl dancing in the club and ends up dancing with Thai

Joseph – The housekeeper and I’d call him the chief nutter of the village.

Marie – Joseph’s wife, who is rarely seen, but sneaks around the house.

Jeanne – Jo’s niece.

Gilou – I believe he is Jo’s son.

Bébert, Jérôme, & Maurice – The biker gang

It begins with three lads in a club, drinking and getting high. They are drinking from their own bottles and generally causing problems. Bart seems to be the most out of it he tries it on with a girl and when knocked back calls her names until a man steps in. He punches the bloke who pushes him back against the wall and then smashes him over the head with a bottle. He is taken out where Ladj and Yasmine is already outside. Eve and Thai come out to find them and take the mick out of Bart. They decide to go off to Eve’s house in the country. Having no money, they rob a petrol station of fuel and road snacks.

The Silver GTI Golf.

On the drive Bart falls asleep and dreams of groping Yasmine as she is asleep, but she wakes up and kisses Bart then he wakes up himself, thus shattering the dream. It’s all because the road is blocked with goats. They all pile out of the small looking Golf to go play with the goats. They find one goat which is bigger than the other looking like the sign of Satan. Bart pulls on its goatee beard and sings a song which most join in and know it. Then the goat bites him, and he again gets pissed off lashes out kicking the goat and any others in his reach. Then Joseph arrives.

Here's Joseph

Strolling towards the car in (shall we say…) unique way. He is introduced as Eve’s housekeeper, and he appears a little too familiar with her. He uses racial slurs to meet them all. Being introduced to Bart he says hello Marc. He corrects him but he says Marc a second and third time. He is at one with the goats and when Thai points out ‘the tits’ on that goat. Joseph takes no time to stroke and caress them he then asks if anyone wants a drink. Eve does so get on her knees Jo squirts some milk in her mouth and face. Another racial slur as he offers some to Thai.

This is how you drink milk in the country.

Jo is in Barts face a lot but in an overly friendly way. They try to drive away but they are stuck now. Bart gets out to push gives up, saying they are knackered and must stay there. Jo pushes him away laughing lays on the ground behind the car and pushes it away with his legs. They make Bart run for a while to catch up to the car. Jo and everyone else laugh at him.

A strange looking kid comes up to Jo and he gives him a hug saying hello Gilou. Meanwhile the car arrives at the mansion without a roof whilst being watched from a window.

They go straight into a small living room where Eve offers a tour. Many are too tired but Yasmine and Ladj goes. They go into a room full of dolls, Dad owned a factory, and he has kept some of the stock. They go into another room called his workshop. Where there is some weird shit in there which is spooky as well.

Marie the housekeeper’s wife catches Thai pretending to shag the couch. Bart says hello and she runs away. Later she is seen making a doll and she says, “daddy has picked out some new clothes for you and eyes for you.”

Jo is trying to convince Bart to go to the hot springs eventually they all agree. Cut to all squashed in the car with Jo smiling in the front seat with Tyson (the dog) on his lap. Loud music pumping out the stereo with them three singing along with the track and making gun action with their hands. (That was actually funny. OK I didn’t laugh but it was amusing.) They arrive at the village area and make their way towards the hot springs. Everyone gets ahead and Jo, Bart, and his dog (Tyson) are left at the back. They spy a young woman ahead and she catches Barts attention. Jo calls her back and pushes the two together. Jo leaves them briefly and Jeanne tries to lick Bart, he rejects her and Jo returns saying you like my niece? Then sends them off together. Bart shakes her off and then heads towards two kids on bikes. He nearly gets hit by a third motorbike and he swears at him and heads after his friends. Jo runs over clips the motor bike rider’s ear and runs after Bart.

Crammed into the Golf

Next, they are in the hot springs. Gilou is already there naked and jumps in. Ladj and Thai get down to their undies and jump in. Likewise with the ladies and they are all in the springs. Then Joseph arrives strips down to his Y-fronts and dives in. (you can’t call it a dive really as it is funnier than that). He disappears under the water, and they get scared that he has drown and the boys try to dive down and save him, but they can’t find him. Yasmine screams in pain and claims to be bitten. Jo pops up behind her laughing. More racial comments as he mocks her for being scared.

In the springs

The three bikers come in strip off and jump in. They are getting on with it when Jeanne arrives and mockingly kicks Bart asking him to get in the spa. Bart isn’t having any of it. She then tries the kissing tactic and that doesn’t work so she ignores him and plays with his dog. When I say that I mean she plays with the dog, the actual cock, and balls of the dog. Bart is pissed off with that pulls the dog away. Jeanne now starts rubbing Barts chest and belly. Reaching a point where she has the angle to push him fully dressed into the springs. Now he is wet and pissed off.

One of the bikers puts Jeanne on his shoulders and challenges the group. Eve gets on Thai’s shoulders, so Yasmine gets on Ladj. Joseph goes to Bart get on my shoulders. Bart points out he is not gay and doesn’t want to. Jo talks him into it and the battle commences. It comes to Bart v Jeanne and what begins with some slaps finishing with Jeanne ripping a large chunk of Barts hair out as he falls into the water. Bart is pissed and approaches Jeanne the biker stands in front, so Bart punches the biker, so he throws shit in Barts face.

We are told that Joseph is drying Barts clothes whilst they are looking for clothes for Bart. Thai and Bart follow Eve to gather wood for the fire. When Bart is scared by a snake. He tries to stamp on it. Jo spots him and is pissed at Bart punishing him. Thai takes the pee for getting told off again. The mocking continues as they return to the fireplace with the others.

Joseph releases the snake back into the wild and watches a couple of ravens tearing a rat apart. (We must watch this as well – in extreme close-up. Just FYI this has no relevance to the plot at all!) Scene is followed by a staged wooden peg play where Thai is mocking Bart again. There is a shout from downstairs as there is a surprise. Its Jo with a present - it’s the young goat from earlier he has killed ready for Christmas Eve meal. At the dinner table everyone is chewing on the goat except Yasmine who won’t for religious reasons. Joseph starts a song that gets everyone going until he gets up and sings then dances as the boys bang the table and enjoy themselves. By 9pm Ladj is smoking a massive joint as the conversation turns to religion. Everyone has an opinion Yasmin is Muslim, Ladj is Christian and not happy with Bart not having a religion and then says that Satan is always pushing us to sin. Joseph agrees with more racism. Then Joseph tells a scary tale as you do ‘at Christmas’. His story is that a man like Bart a fearless man was visited by Satan in his dreams. Satan offers the man anything he wishes, and he wishes he were invisible. Satan makes him invisible so later that night he climbs onto his sister and fucks her like a pig. The next morning, he realises that she has a bun in the oven (she is pregnant). Satan returns and says that the child will be born on Christmas Eve. When the bell rings 12 times and the child is mine (says Satan). As such you must give him a gift, a gift for the nipper and the gift has to be… BANG he hits the table, and everyone is scared followed by more racism.

Bart goes for a pee. He finds his clothes in a box and takes them back. Whilst peeing the light goes out. When they come back on, he sees the doll behind him held by Marie who drops it and runs away again. Eve follows up and cleans up the bloody mess and the doll and equally disappears. Joseph arrives and asks if Bart was scared.

Thai and Bart go to the bedroom and find a pictures of Eve which they both drool over and Bart asks for chance to share. Eve is pissed off as someone has messed up her dad’s workshop. Both deny it. Meanwhile Yasmine and Ladj are outside getting flirty and getting it together. When his phone rings and he take the call. Clearly, it’s his girlfriend from Paris, so pissed off Yasmine heads back inside for a bath. Joseph is outside walking his dog whistling.

Eve gives stuff for a bubble bath to Yasmine whilst Bart is asking to share Eve. She returns to Thai and Bart who are watching MTV and Eve’s favourite song comes on and she starts dancing. Bart dances with her and tries to grope her. She pushes him away and he leaves. Thai and Eve start getting frisky on the couch, he suggests going up to the bedroom.

Yasmine in a bubble bath.

Yasmine is in a bath when the lights go out. Then some hands massage her shoulders she thanks Ladj. Ladj is still outside on the phone. The hands leave just as Ladj comes in then his phone rings again and Yasmine shouts at him.

Thai and Eve are full on going for it on the bed. Bart walks in and Eve invites him to join in and he does. The three of them get involved in a highly inappropriate activity for the children to watch. It’s not inappropriate for Joseph who is hanging outside the window watching. Ladj looks out the window sees Joseph at their window. He calls Yasmine but Jo is gone by the time she looks. Ladj has a bath while Yasmine gets into the bed and screams. They all come running, pull back the sheets and see the bed full of grasshoppers.

Meanwhile Joseph is in the bedroom with Marie. Who gives him the doll that is almost complete and close to being finished? Jo picks up a twisted knife thing and starts sharpening it.

Joseph sharpening his 'tool'

The gang all hear a bang from upstairs they go up there Bart armed with a fire poke. The scary shit toy room is scary as they walk in. One of the objects moves and Bart whacks it with his poker. They all run downstairs. Followed by the bike gang who run down the stairs and out of the house. Bart and Thai give chase one of their bikes won’t start so the two jump of the back of one bike and try and escape. Bart runs after but Thai gets the other bike started Bart jumps on the back for a bike chase. The bikers crash their bike and are spotted by villagers, so Bart & Thai turn and head back to escape the law. Its nearly midnight.

Meanwhile Jeanne comes downstairs screaming as she has been beaten about the head by Bart. Jo appears and is pissed that no one knows where Bart is. He goes to the clock opens the door Gilou is in there. This really pisses him off and he attacks Gilou. Yasmine runs into the woods. Eve steps in and gets thrown across the room. Ladj steps in to rescue Eve and is pinned high against the wall. The boys get back then Bart and Jo’s dogs start fighting. Thai sees Jo and tries to save him meaning Jo turns on Thai beating the crap out of him. Yasmine finds an ambulance whilst on the side of the road, but it doesn’t see her and races past.

Jeanne not looking her best.

In the house Marie approaches Jo as the clock strikes twelve and the baby hits the floor between her legs. Jo crawls over and cries with joy. Ladj sneaks up behind and beats him on the back of the head with a tin tray. The three boys run and jump in the car and speed off. Jo gives chase and hangs off the side of the car until he falls off and appears on the top of the car. They stop suddenly he falls in front of the car kneeling up Ladj guns it and runs him down. They are free into the night. Passing Yasmine on the side of the road. Bart demands they go back for her and gets kicked out of the car by Ladj. He goes back to the house. Finding his dog licking the blood around Eve’s head. He grabs the dog but Jo grabs Bart. Joseph pins Bart down and using his new sharp tool that twists in circles he cuts out both of Barts eyes. Bart then has some weird (and pointless flashbacks) before the gory ending is revealed as his eyes are gone and he has his eyelids sewn shut. Joseph and his family are happy as he has the doll with Bart’s eyes in and the rest of the family are sat on the sofa celebrating the festive period.

The family is all here

THAT IS THE PLOT FINISHED HERE'S MY SUMMARY -

The problem here was that I had no connection for any of the characters. You start to feel for one or the other then they do something dickish and you don’t care about them. That I think was the point. The end of the movie I didn’t care about the victim in this. I didn’t care about the villain either, there was no connection for me at all. That was the issue and the reason for that being this movie was plain and simple trying to press the buttons of the censors and not trying to press the buttons of the audience. The viewer was not the target here, the film board were the target for this. I want an argument about what is allowed in my movie, and I am pushing it to the limit. In the end whether this was cut to bits or not I don’t know but the result was a series of shock scenes followed by a pointless gore conclusion which didn’t do much for the gore fans or the horror fans or film fans either. I am yet to read other reviews for this movie and haven’t checked it out anywhere. I shall do so before the next sentence. Wow 53% on rotten tomatoes and an audience score of 52% as well. The comments are positive which really confuses me. You have just read the plot above, then I’ve read these comments –

  • Despite the air of brutish aggression and sexual predatoriness, little happens until fury retribution finally rears its head.

  • As a grotesque parody of the hillbilly-terror genre, it has a real wit and energy.

  • Manages a playful sensibility, revelling in its repugnance and enjoying the heck out of its twisted ending.

  • An eye-catching calling card for its first-time director.

  • Totally bonkers – but all the more gripping for it.

I think I watched a different movie. This is a comedy? I was supposed to laugh at this. I may have to go back and have another watch as I must have missed this somewhere. Vincent Cassel’s character of Joseph does dominate every scene with an aggressive presence that he overpowers in it and takes over the other characters. But that is the idea isn’t it. The wife at the end was extremely disturbing but again I think I was appalled and scared rather than laughing which I think was the idea. OK I will go back and watch this movie again but with the view this should be a comedy. I will also write the plot above after this re-watch. Then continue below (seems the fair thing to do).

OK I have a much better understanding of this movie now. It is much lower budget than I thought, and the idea of the film was to go in order funny, sexy, then scary. Which I can see to a certain extent, and I can see the humour this time. Did I laugh, no. Was I appalled this time, well no on a second watch the clues were there and the Americans may have a point as I missed an important bit of plot given in dialogue when not reading at the right point. When in the Christmas dinner scene.

It also appears that this movie bombed as it had a budget of $5.6m and made $2.4 at the box office. I guess the humour didn’t carry over that well.

This movie has clearly played on my mind as I keep talking about it and I think after reading other reviews I subconsciously thought I should like it, but I just don’t. I want to unpick what people liked and what I missed. On a weird level I wanted to like it, the fact after first watching it I didn’t want to be convinced reading others’ views to give it a go. I watched it again with a light-hearted approach and gave it another shot. No, I didn’t laugh and no, my confused opinion of this didn’t change.

I think this boils down to this movie having too many scenes that are pointless to the plot that seems to me that the attitude was let’s push these boundaries. The humour simply passed me by, I didn’t get it. I tried to but I just didn’t find it funny. I had no connection with the characters except for Yasmine, but she feels like an extra more than a main character. Knowing that the main three characters had been involved in short films and they teamed up with the main character and driver of this movie. Meaning you have the three boys and the bad guy covered. They then needed a female that would be a seasoned actress that was ok with the sex scenes and more confident than the boys with raw talent. There was a gaping hole that needed another female to fill, this was given to a young and fresh actress. This character was the only one that shows kindness to all, she doesn’t get involved with the nonsense the others get on with, yet she gets dragged into the mess without much of a fight. She is the only one that I cared about but nothing really happens to her. She has a bath gets in bed with grasshoppers, sees the violence and runs out into the woods, misses the ambulance but keeps running sees the boys driving off and ends up in the woods. That’s it. The others meant nothing to me. I don’t need someone like me to be in a film to enjoy it, but I didn’t like any characters. There was nothing there for me to show empathy with. This is just a series of shocking things that I was supposed to laugh at but in the end just passed me by as shocking moments that didn’t mean anything to me. At the end of it I just want to move on and not bother with it anymore and leave on a shelf to gather the dust that is heading its way. Don’t forget that I am watching this, so you don’t have to.

Verdict -

Sheitan = So Bad – Its not worth your time

Frontier(s) (#9)

Again, before I start this, I have to admit this review is before I’ve tracked down a copy of Inside which will be very similar to this (but with a half decent plot). Here we are with exactly what I was expecting from most of these movies. Gore that fills the screen up from the bottom up. If the screen wasn’t sealed, then the mess in the living room would be unbelievable. The blood, gore and close-up slashing is overflowing in this movie and the reason I didn’t like this movie the first time I saw it has mellowed somewhat as this has reasons for this and I can see where they were coming from. All these years later. I will be giving you a blow-by-blow account of this action-packed gory horror so if you don’t want spoilers look for the red warning and skip to the end. This three hundred mile an hour gore fest to go through in details. Ready?

The movie cover.

THE PLOT

(With obvious SPOILER ALERTS!!!)

Should I start with the character like I did with Satan. The movie starts with a voice over from

Yasmine – Only female of the gang and former lover of Alex and brother to…

Sami – Gang member and the reason for the first problem

Alex – Leader of the gang

Tom – Bleach blonde pretty boy of the gang

Farid – Last but not least member of the gang.

Gilberte – Blonde female at the châteaux

Klaudia – Brunet female at the châteaux

Goetz – Bald first member male of the châteaux

Eva – Pregnant girl at the châteaux

Karl - second in command at the châteaux

Hans – The large chef who butchers and cooks the meat

Von Geisler – Father and leader of the châteaux

La Mere – Grandma at the châteaux

In the not-too-distant future we start with an image from a ultrasound of a baby. Yasmine is telling us that she is three months pregnant, but she doesn’t want to bring this baby into this world. The extreme right has won the first phase of the elections in France and the gang that Yasmine is part of has decided to commit a robbery and then flee the country. The robbery clearly went wrong as we join Yasmine with Sami her brother as they reach the hideout, but Sami has been shot in the chest. Alex, Tom, and Farid arrive. Sami is Yasmine’s brother, and they hatch a plan. Tom and Farid are going to head to border with the cash but stop in a hostel or chateaux close to the border and wait for the others. Alex and Yasmine are going to take Sami to A&E. Yas, and Sami go in, and the doctor takes one look at Sami and goes for help. The police. Seeing them coming Sami tells Yasmine to run and then promptly dies on the bed. Yasmine runs jumps in the car with Alex and they speed off (in a metro – so maybe that should be they go off as fast as it will go).

On route to the border Tom the handsome bleach blonde one stops the car and tells Farid to leave the money and get out of the car. Farid refuses but after a small tussle Tom starts laughing and says it was a joke. They arrive at the hotel/hostel place and walk in to find a blonde women wearing jeans and a thin white low-cut sleeveless top. Along side a brunet in a long frumpy dress. The boys walk in and instantly Tom starts flirting. They ask for a room for the night and they get to pick their lucky number. Tom says two. The blonde (called Gil) calls into the backroom. A muscular man appears and says that he will be back take a seat then tells the women to take good care of them. More flirting.

Yasmine in the car is now asking to get out, take me home and I promise not to say anything! Nick says no. I think its around this point we find out that Nick is the father of Yasmine’s baby, and she doesn’t want anything to do with him.

The four are getting on in the bar except Farid keeps mentioning his girlfriend. The two women end up going off with Tom and Farid is dragged along to the room with a video camera. Farid gets dragged in by Klaudia (the dark-haired girl) but he resists for most parts. Afterwards the four head back downstairs. Where they all sit down for dinner. With Goetz and Le Mere, they are force feeding Le Mere as she is old, and she spews it all over herself and the table. Tom stands repulsed and calls the girls whores and storms out. Farid who had already refused to eat, being a Muslim and the meat was cooked in pork. (they didn’t say what the meat itself was). In Farid’s defence he stands and apologises on Tom’s behalf saying he didn’t mean it then goes after Tom.

Dinner time for La Mere

In their room Yas calls them saying they will be with them in three hours. There is a knock at their door. A police officer stands at the door. He is going to arrest them for calling his sister a whore. Wh-oops. Releasing they are going to be arrested they run and get back to the living room where Goetz beats Tom with a massive iron bar. On his knees Karl (the police officer) runs in and shoots. Removing some of Tom’s fingers, screaming in pain Farid grabs a pair of scissors and stabs Karl to protect his friend. They run out of the building and jump into the car. They speed off but Goetz gives chase in his much larger 4x4. He eventually rams them off the road and they fall off the road and into a mine. Landing on the roof. Tom screaming for Farid to help him. Gil tells Karl about them having money. Goetz returns and gives an update. Crawling from the car Tom and Farid head into the mine.

Yas and Alex arrive at the farmland and head into the courtyard. They head into the living room where there is a roaring open fire and two women. Gilberte and Klaudia. They ask about their friends. Gil smiles and says sorry we are full and couldn’t offer them a room so they are at the farm close by I can take you there if you would like.

Tom & Farid are wandering around the tunnels they find a small pipe with light at the end. They think they can fit through it, so Tom goes first carrying a Biffo lighter, Farid follows with his video camera light. Tom gets stuck (it was always going to happen!). He asks for his mum; Farid tells him to stop and start moving. You can do this! Then he hears something behind in the tunnel. He turns the camera back behind him and see a face in the darkness panics screams at Tom to get moving quickly. Tom appears in what looks like a kitchen where he is spotted by a large gentleman in a large rubber apron (Hans) one blow to the head sees the end of Tom. He is dragged out of the fireplace by Hans which allows Farid to climb out and hide.

Tom, popping up where he shouldn't have.

Yas and Alex arrives in a courtyard surrounded by buildings. They go into another living room. Where the girls stoke the fire and ensure the place is neat and tidy. There is another woman in there who has her head to side. (Until I got her character name my notes called her weird neck woman) She is Eva. They are preparing for father to appear, and Eva tells Yas to sit up straight. Alex has to go for a pee. Whilst there he spies a large gentleman in a rubber apron.

Alex finds Tom just hanging around.

Meanwhile back in the living room an older gentleman walks in wearing black trousers and white shirt with a black tie and leather gloves. (The SS look is not subtle here!) Alex finds Tom hung by a hook through his ankle (oh if you don’t like gore, you would of check out of this movie by now!) Trying to lift Tom off Alex fails and Tom’s ankle falls back onto the hook. (Ouch just ouch! – FYI, I ruptured my Achilles a few years back, they love ankles in this movie!). Leaving Tom, he heads back to get Yas and get out. The father figure: Von Geisler calls for Karl. He arrives and they overpower Alex and Yasmine. They are chained around their necks and hands; Von Geisler tells Hans to send them down with the pigs. They are dragged by their necks to the pigs. Whilst Hans does the chaining Eva is told to bleed out Tom who slits his throat. Chained to the wall by their necks Alex pulls on Yas’s chains, uses all his strength he snaps one of Yasmine’s chain.

Farid is now being chased by the strange people in the mine and runs into dark room. Turning on his camera light he sees it is full of dead bodies hanging from the ceiling on hooks. While Karl gets stitches (again you must see this up close otherwise you won’t believe it will you!!). Yas is free and Alex tells her to dig under the gate. Doing this she has to swim through pig shit to escape. Yasmine tells Alex that she loves him, and he does too, then she escapes and runs across the field and escapes the mad place.

Farid is spotted by Hans and Karl, so they give chase. Hans spots him in a steam room. Locks the door and turns it up to 500 and leaves him in there. He screams and shouts, but he doesn’t open the door for him. Finally, Farid is released and looks cooked. He sees Hans and tries to grab him stumbling to the floor. Hans blows his head off with a shotgun.

Finding the cage with only 50% of the occupants they decide to use a technique they ‘used to use on slaves’ and pinning Alex down they cut through his Achilles (yes, clarifying again - you get to watch this up close.) He screams lots and I would too. Yas is halfway across a field when she finally sees a car a big 4x4 coming towards her. It stops “you have to save me and take me to police station!”

“Ok, jump in” says Goetz

She gets in and the audience already knows where this is going.

Yas is put back in the cage with the screaming Alex. They will grant one last wish to Alex before he is next weekend’s roast dinner. His wish – to be killed now. Von Geisler does so by shooting him in his head. Yas is taken to be hosed down and washed. Eva touches her belly and somehow realises she is pregnant. This Eva has some talent. Von Geisler tells her she will stay here until she becomes one of them. She is locked into a girl’s bedroom with chains to the walls. Eva arrives and gives her a white dress to wear. Eva then tells her that they want a baby as my babies with Karl were not good enough and Von Geisler demanded them be destroyed so they can get a better one. She is expecting her forth but the same is expected. They won’t kill them and have hidden them in the mines, and they feed them via a tube (oh the one which Tom climbed up). Farid was running from someone who could have helped him (Oh well too late now).

Everyone is ready for dinner then...

They go for a (Texas Chainsaw) dinner where Yas is in the white dress. Von Geisler arrives in a German military outfit. During the meal where a meat is carved and shared among the whole family. Von Geisler gives a speech about the family and explains that the new baby will be Karl’s. Then the tells the family that Karl will take over as the new leader of this group who will be supported by his sister Gil. Yas pulls a knife on Von Geisler holding him in front of her. Von Geisler demands she is shot. Hans pulls a gun and kills Von Geisler. Yas makes a run for it. Karl and Goetz give chase carrying some serious machines guns.

Yas goes underground in a lift and reaches the body hanging room. Goetz follows her in there realises she is hiding in there so starts hacking at the bodies, hoping to hit her. He then uncovers a massive table with a circular saw on it. (yes, you know what is going to happen don’t you!). Switching it on he continues his search for Yasmine in the room by swinging an axe into the bodies. Dropping the axe.

Yasmine plays hide the axe, I wonder who is going to win.

Yasmine grabs it hiding it against her chest as he comes from behind her. She slams the blade into his foot. Then into his chest before a struggle and Goetz is pushed onto the spinning blade of death. It is so large that it goes in the back and appears in his chest. Its slice is through the shoulder blade. (I really don’t need the yes you see this bit, do I?) Later Karl finds Goetz and turns on the alarm she is back in the lift where Karl joins here. Kneeling in front of him he aims the machine gun into her head. BAM! Karl heads explodes in extreme close-up, his jaw is about the last thing attached to the rest of him. Eva took her revenge and saves Yasmine saying, “I came to save you!”

“come with me!” screams Yasmine seeing her car in front of her.

“No, My children are here, and I cannot leave them, you Run”

Bloody Yasmine and Pregnant Eva.

Yas gets in the car… no keys!! She runs back into one of the barns finds Alex’s body she covers his head and ruffles through the clothes there and finds her keys. She turns as Gilberte walks in with a machine gun and Klaudia with a shotgun. Yas has a shotgun and after taking a barrage of shots she fires back but not at the girls but at the massive gas cylinders behind them. Sending the building into a fireball of an explosion. Yas creeps out from her hiding place (unharmed!!) goes back to the other room and finds Klaudia motionless on the floor with glass sticking out of various parts of her body. She is coughing up blood Yas leaves her and heads for the car. Gil is also unharmed and outside with the shotgun (I KNOW!! These massive explosions aren’t what they used to be!!). She forces Yas onto her knees and puts the massive gun to her head. Yas smiles and leaps up biting a large chunk out of her neck. (if Tyson is watching, this kills Gil, so the ear business was close!!). Yas asks Eva again to join her and Eva refuses again.

Shaking heavily, she drives away. The radio has the news on it, and she hears about a failed attempted assassination of the far-right leader of the party that just won the first round of the election. Following this round of voting there has been more riots. She looks up and sees a Police road block and she gets out of the car still shaking she slowly raises her hands as they point their guns at her.

THE END

Another version of the cover.

THAT IS THE PLOT FINISHED HERE'S MY SUMMARY -

This movie was better than I remembered it when watched a few years back. This and inside was what I based my experience on the French Extreme Cinema on. Gore, Gore, Gore and just a little more gore with a plot you can poke a small Arctic Truck through. This on the other hand has a simple revenge story imbedded in the middle of a anti-fascist agenda movie. They are fleeing from the riots and the possible issues of potentially the country returning to a Nazi style leadership and may not have chosen the best option in pulling off a robbery they still have the idea of escaping to Holland where they believe they can live with less risk. They discuss about Bush ruling America and it’s coming their way soon. They are scared and running. They have a reasonable plan before they run into the Texas Chainsaw Massacre family who have been farming humans for what seems like a while without anyone even worried about the fact these people are disappearing. They are killing and eating many of them. The theme of them running from a possible fascist regime straight into a family lead by a Nazi seems a bit of bad luck and this movie rapidly descends into your typical revenge movie. Where the innocent Yasmine is tortured less than her companions as she finds the strength to fightback. I have never fired a gun and would assume without a tutor stood next to me I wouldn’t get the safety off let alone get the gun into my shoulder enough to cover the blast. These people pick up a gun and they can aim better than some of the greatest out there. The injuries these people suffer and keep fighting is incredible but the biggest thing to note about this movie is… the gore. It has not sexual references, but WOW does it dial up the gore to a 12 out of 10. Everything is in close-up and doesn’t cut away. After the first watch I didn’t realise how close-up Karl’s head explosion was. I remember the Achilles cutting scene being horrific and second time watching yep, it’s not nice. Farid cooking likewise. This movie is played for gore, and it doesn’t hide from it. The difference here to Inside is it has a plot. Not the greatest plot ever but it has one. You can see what the director is trying to tell you about and it does make you think rather than laugh at the shambolic attempt at a story that wants to shock you but succeeds because you are shocked at how poor it is. This on the other hand is not the greatest of stories and on my first watch I thought the Nazi business was irrelevant and not needed. Paying more attention to the beginning and the end it does make some sense of saying this is what they are running away from but end up running into so much worse than they left behind. I get that and get what the storyteller is trying to tell me. Would I recommend this movie to anyone? Probably one person I know, and he was the one that lent it to me in the first place. The only people that are going to get any enjoyment from this movie are those horror fans that love a gory movie and extreme violence. This film is dialled up to 12 on the gore level, there is a story in there to keep you going but if you cannot cope with the gore you are not going to get halfway through this without either vomiting or switching off, which now leads into coming up with a verdict which for this one is going to be really difficult. As its bad because of the gore so how do I score this one… See below for the answer

Frontier(s)

Verdict -

Frontier(s) = So Bad – It's probably not worth your time...

unless you love gore horror movies, then you'll love it!!

Intimacy (#8)

Well, getting this one delivered through the door was a bit of a surprise. The box has two naked bodies on the front, and I thought this French Extreme movies may have stretched the censorship rules in a different direction that I didn’t think of. I had literally brought films without looking into them (on purpose) this one is even more intriguing as the box has no English on it at all. Having been a bit surprised by this I had a look online to gather some background. The main thing appears to be that the sex scenes have an element that wasn’t simulated. Which meant this film was labelled pornographic when released? Remember I said I’d watch the films, so you don’t have to…I put the DVD in the player and less than 6 minutes into the movie that is exactly what I thought I was getting. Honestly by the end this movie had won me over a simple drama maybe, but it worked, and I was emotionally involved and was completely taken by this loveable artistic movie. Here's the cover -

Now you see my point about the cover.

THE PLOT

(With obvious SPOILER ALERTS!!!)

I am tempted to give a short plot with this one as I really don’t want to give too much away but with the spoiler alert above, I will have to look at this in more detail. The case and all the instructions are in German which is even more confusing as this was sold to me as a French movie. This is an English movie; it is filmed in London. It begins with a man sleeping on a sofa, in what appears to be the most uncomfortable position. Meanwhile the chef from South Park is singing on the soundtrack. The man (Jay) wakes up and hurries around the dirty flat pulling on what appears to be an oversized pair of tracksuit bottoms. The doorbell rings and you can see a woman in a red coat through the misted glass front door. He opens the door, and she walks in. He offers her a coffee which she accepts by nodding. She speaks “so you really live here?”

“you asked me that last time!”

They don't talk much in these scenes

They go downstairs to see his CD collection and they don’t get to see much of it. As he starts to tidy up and put things out of the way. They start to strip off and they are already at it within minutes of the start of the movie. You see him putting on a condom and they get down to business. Less than 8 minutes into the movie and they are finished. She gets up off the floor gets dressed and leaves.

Jay & Claire within the first 7 minutes...

We then join Jay driving on the streets of London. He grabs an electric shaver whilst driving which looked a bit dangerous. He reaches his job which is a Bar Manager. There is a new man starting (I think he is Joel) he is French, and Jay tells him to put his coffee in the fridge for later. Before heading upstairs where Jay is asked to assess the new guy after showing him the ropes. He is opinionated but will go through with it. Going back downstairs he removes the coffee from the fridge and calls him an arsehole. He says he has to learn fast, or he’ll be gone in a week.

We flashback into Jay’s past, and he is bathing his two sons. He wraps them up in dressing gowns when his blonde wife arrives home. She is Susan and his sons says to him “Daddy, I love everyone!” He organises them for bed and Susan says how beautiful they are looking.

Memory over Jay is back at his home he gets a beer out of the fridge then the doorbell rings. He had forgotten again; the woman is waiting by the front door again. He opens the door she walks past him and goes to the bathroom. She comes down to the room and they embrace and kiss. They stop and then begin again by stripping off this time he crawls over to her. She has a stroke of his old boy; second similar scene and we are less than 19 minutes into this movie.

“It’s Wednesday, will it be next Wednesday too?”

She leaves. Jay goes upstairs finds a cigarette in the bathroom and sits on the toilet and lights it. He lives in filth.

Jay's flat isn't the greatest.

Back in the bar his Boss asked about the French guy, He will do says Jay. The Frenchman Joel buys Jay a drink and asks him how long he has worked here. Six years the same age as my oldest boy. He says he walked out on his family at this stage. Jay then asks if Joel is still looking for a room.

Jay takes Joel to Victor. Victors’ family had kicked him out and he has not taken it well. He shows Joel an unkept dirty magazine strewn room. Then it sounds like Victor changes his mind, suggesting Joel stays with Jay. Victor offers everyone cable TV but then Joel feels like Victor doesn’t want to rent the room. They get into a shouting match which spills outside the flat. Jay points out that Victor needs someone with him. Victor is now sweating. The argument continues. Cut to...

They are at it again.

Naked Jay and mysterious woman on the floor. He sits in a chair just to watch her sleep. She wakes with a start gets up gets dressed and leaves. This time Jay grabs his shoes and coat and follows her. He follows her to a market then changes his mind and with a smile he lets her go. That night he is drinking at home and remembers his previous married life. Packing a bag and taking his signed photo of John Lennon and then at the last second, he sees his sons shoes and changes his mind. He goes to bed with his wife who isn’t interested in him, and he begins to play with himself. He goes to the bathroom to finish off by finding her underwear. It ends abruptly when his son knocks on the door after wetting the bed. He cleans him up and his son says to him “Your eyes are upside down!” back in his flat he is clearly missing his kids.

Cut back to another session between the two. This time you actually see her giving Jay a blowjob. Therefore, the film was band. The mystery woman has a name, and you learn it 37 minutes and approximately 4 or 5 weeks into the story we learn her name. It is Claire.

Victor shows up asking for a room as Claire leaves. Jay says she is the landlady and desperately doesn’t want to give Victor a room. Eventually he gives up and gives Victor a key saying you have two days maximum. This time Jay leaves and follows Claire. She takes a tube and goes into flats and courtyards. He searches around the flats as she has gone. Suddenly she appears again carrying clothes and bags. She gets on a train and again he follows, she meets Betty on the train and plays down what she has done today. They agree to meet on Friday at class. She then heads for a pub, and he follows her in. The bar area is almost empty but there is a theatre downstairs. Jay goes downstairs and the theatre is showing an American Play. He sits next to Timothy Spall (Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Harry Potter, Outside Edge, Kings Speech, Damned United). You know he’s going to be in it. Jay takes a seat hidden by a beam and Andrew (Tim) and his son get talking to Jay. At the end of the first half of the show they head back upstairs Jay offers to buy Andrew and his son a drink. As he does the Kid (Luke) says I think mum was really good tonight. Jay’s face drops he starts to realise who he has sat with and then decides to leave.

Jay goes to speak with Joel, explains what is going on and now how will he end it? As he doesn’t even talk so how do you break this up? That Wednesday Victor is sent out, but Jay waits in vain as Claire doesn’t arrive. Victor comes back saying you would tell me if there were any problems wouldn’t you.

Jay goes back to the pub that night he meets Andrew again who basically confirms that the mystery woman is his wife. They continue playing pool and Andrew says he stays up here so he can hear what people say as they leave to be able to give her feedback on her performance. Andrew also points out her name is Claire to Jay.

Jay goes back to Joel for advice asking why it is so difficult and Joel point out that this is probably the first woman he has been with that doesn’t ask for anything. He then says that she is seeing someone else, and Joel’s says but aren’t you as well? Jay is taken aback no I am not.

We see Claire talking about teaching her class on Fridays. Jay is following again, this time he loses her. She had popped into a shop and steps out to see Jay in front of her she smiles and tries to catch up. Fails but ends up following him. He gets on a bus, and she follows. She follows him as he enters the pub where she acts once a week and where her husband will be right now. She stops and makes some judgements in her head.

Jay ruins Andrews game of Pool

Andrew is playing pool again. Jay starts chatting with Andy and putting him off his game. With extremely probing questions. (I was going to transcribe it but then thought I wouldn’t, so you have a bit of a hybrid below as this is the best scene in the movie. So, gripping you are waiting for one of them to break. Fascinating).

Jay - says he was just thinking the other day that if people were fond of each other what could happen to break that bond.

Andy - you mean lovers or mates?

Jay says “You: for example, what would fuck up your marriage?”

Jay says, “The only thing that I said I would do something and then actually did it was to leave my family.”

Andy “AHA So you are married! I thought you was!”

Jay – It is just like me, Just to leave and get out when it was so much easier just to stay.

Jay asks Andrew what he thinks of a woman who has it off on the sly regularly and then just goes back to her family in the evening like nothing has happened?

He doesn’t answer so Jay feels he needs to keep going “Wicked gift of pretence as well after being fucked by some guy. Then goes back to her husband as if nothing had happened.

Andy – You want my opinion – Well there are lots of guys like you but that is no help to you. Jay – Well… (he pauses and thinks) she’s got to go back and see her kids and hug her kids and kiss her kids and pour herself a drink and one for the fuckwit sitting opposite her. He is practically pointing at Andy as he says this. “I am slightly tired today, even when they are fucking this guy, they don’t say a word.

The other pool player cuts in as Andy has stopped playing and thinking.

Jay continues “you know what Susan would come home every night and just eat me up with her eyes!”

Andy – Give yourself a break man

Jay – well she is bound to compare isn’t she. What do you think though?

Andy – As long as she came home every evening then that is fine.

Jay – I’m not surprised by that or hold it against you. Until you lived through something like this you feel really sheltered and when it actually happens to you. You’re not even surprised are you. Am I right?

Andy – So you are saying that, if you stay they you can’t face it? Right?

Andy’s opponent has had enough and storms out to get a game somewhere else. Jay picks up the cue.

Andy – Is your wife seeing a total cunt or What?

Jay turns away to walk to the end of the pool table

Andy continues – you said he would never say a word. Hearing you talk about it. You are so worked up its like you’re the one that got dumped. Yeah? Marriage, call it a war it’s a battle it’s a terrible journey but it’s a reason for living… You will bounce back.

Jay – Already have.

Andy – you’ll bounce back

Jay – I thought I told you about it already. This woman I’m seeing every Wednesday and we fuck better than nothing and she loves it. She’s a really good fuck you know. Not the sort with the bedside thing for me it is what really counts.

Andy – What day did you say you saw her?

Jay – Wednesdays

Andy – That’s a good day for me, Wednesdays. Really good business on a Wednesday but then again Saturdays are wh-oar. But what makes you think I am not interested in a good fuck? Because I didn’t mention it! She’s got a husband you say.

Jay – I didn’t say, I don’t know actually, she didn’t say. That’s a good question

Andy – Fancy another game, there is no performance tonight so it’s just the two of us?

Jay – Actually I was just passing through anything else on tonight.

Andy – No tonight she is out giving her poxy drama lessons out in the fucking sticks.

You think he is going to snap any second.

Back at home Victor asks Jay to go to the insurance company with him to help him. Jay asks Victor to leave but gives up and leaves the house walking straight into Claire. Were you leaving? You didn’t come last week! We hadn’t agreed, had we? Shall we go in? Cue another scene but this time Jay tries to take off her raincoat and is driving this time. More aggressive even, but they still go through with it.

Jay crap with buttons!

At her drama classes Claire is now angry and taking it out on her class. Betty in particular. After the class she goes back and although Betty is kind, Claire is very aggressive to her and then herself.

Jay walks into a party where Victor is, shouting at him to get out. Can’t you see they are taking the piss out of you. Jay starts to leave Victor says that Jay just smiles and leaves, and you never see him again. Joel says he doesn’t know how to love they swear at each other and leave. When Jay and Victor are leaving Victor says there is a girl there giving you the eye. Jay goes back to her place, and they get it on although she talks about property the whole time and then just laughs at him. She starts again in the morning, and he says he can’t and runs downstairs before begging her to pass him the keys as he is locked in.

He is feeding the boys and Victor hands him back the keys. Its Wednesday and he takes the boys back to their mother. Who has the briefest chats with Jay before leaving? He heads back to the pub.

In the pub pool champ offers him a game. He then cannot face Claire in the show so goes back outside. He comes in to use the loo but the bell rings whilst he is in there and trying to get out quickly, he is collared by Andy. Andy takes him backstage to meet his wife. This is a very awkward moment as she blanks him to get ready and then Andy leaves them two alone. At one point I thought you would tell me what you knew but no you just kept your gob shut.

Jay asks, “What the fuck are you doing with him?”

So, you are the unhappy bloke that is on the bounce back that Andy told me about. They argue for a while about the relationship when her son walks in making it even more awkward.

Claire and Betty in the back of Andy's cab.

Claire confides in Betty at the park before joining them for dinner. They offer to drive Betty home. They drop Betty off and then they sit in silence before Claire breaks the silence.

Claire – Betty’s nice isn’t she. I am not going to leave you.

Andy – What?

Claire - Claire is telling Andrew that she is not going to leave him

Andy – I wasn’t worried

Claire – So did you find Jay, or did he come looking for you?

Andy (Shouting) – I don’t give a fuck about that, you know what hurts, what really hurts the most. You will never be an actress. Never! You have to face it. I really wonder what good you are for your students. You know what they seem to like you but what a sham I never believed it, but I went with it anyway.

There is a bloke waving from the side of the road.

Claire – You have a fair, I will walk. You know what is sad you don’t even know how to hurt me. She gets out and walks.

Jay brushes up well when working as a Bar Manager

Andy drives to Jay’s bar. Orders a beer and compliments the place. Jay just says it stopped I don’t see her anymore.

Andy says that he was going to suggest sharing but doesn’t need to. You know what. I love her more and more as time passes.

Joel and Victor are taking items out of Jays home. Victor throwing things out the window. The doorbell goes and Claire walks in. They argue and explain their feelings. She wanted to start something new again with him. His journey is what he misses his kids in his life. He admits that he didn’t expect to get tied to you and thought it would blow over.

Jay suggests “Comeback and stay.”

“No, Jay” she starts crying and now so is Jay.

“Have you left him?” Asks Jay.

“No,”

Joel who has heard most of this comes into the room makes a weak excuse to leave and goes. Leaving them to have one final ‘thing’ before she leaves, and Jay picks up the post. Claire catches a bus and the titles roll.

THAT IS THE PLOT FINISHED

IT IS SAFE TO READ ON AS HERE IS MY SUMMARY -

This movie is not what I was expecting and more. Firstly, this is in English and shot in London. Showing more of a true side of London it is grimy and gritty, very grey which is how I remember London when I moved there all those years ago. This movie doesn’t shy away from much and it doesn’t shy away from painting London as it is.

With regards the movie; having watched it for the first time I think I was expecting porn and its sex scenes where the most artistic I’d seen. In an interview with Kerry Fox (Claire) she is asked if she regrets the unsimulated scene (the BJ scene) and she will ask you if you have seen it? Because she says this movie was some of her best work and she won’t listen to you if you haven’t seen it. I’ve said it before, and I will say it again this doesn’t shy away from showing parts you may not see elsewhere but it is not filmed in such a way that is anything other than with some form of dignity. You feel they get up to whatever and frankly you see something in one scene you won’t see anywhere else. But those scenes are the most artistic sex scenes I’ve seen in any movie. I’ve heard people and critics lord up the movie ‘Don’t Look Now’ with its sex scene, this is more graphic yet more tasteful than that. I went from shocked and embarrassed to have even brought this. To then sit in front of the TV screen to press play with the thought of ‘How am I going to review this?’ maybe watch and drop it from the list. With the scene kicking off within 6 minutes oh boy I cannot do this. Then the story started, and things start to fall into place. It gives you the reason why the scenes were shot the way they were. The audience knows how passionate the two of them were, no chatting no talking just passion for each other. No questions. No demands. No dominance just an equal partnership that has come together for one reason. Then the story kicks in and all that goes away you end up watching a gritty and sad story that over time you realise that no one is going to come out of this happy. She kept secrets he became a secret squirrel to find information about her when talking to her would have worked out better for both. His impatience provides the kick to the story that drives them all into bother.

Being set in London about four years after I moved out but when I was still working on the west side of London. It shows London how it is and was grey, grimy, and gritty. It adds to the arty feel of this movie, it feels like the camera is pointed at the actors and what is behind them is what is behind them. The trains, tubes and buses haven’t changed that much. The parks are there and the grey blocks of flats. Life isn’t kind here, but people make the most of it. There is a scene when an older lady walks past Jay and says hello darlin’ he replies with - you alright love. That reminds me of my time in London. Didn’t matter what you look like people got on.

This movie courted attention with its sex scenes. They became the talking point of this movie and Kerry puts it best when she says watch it and then judge. As I did the prejudge thing with the cover and coming at this movie with completely the wrong idea. Even from putting it on and getting confused with the German – French Film in English I was thrown completely but what I actually got was a story about a love triangle that you fell for all parties. You don’t want to take a side you just want them all to be happy, but you know that they can never resolve this. You feel for Jay, you feel for Claire and then desperately feel for Andrew as the one innocently dragged into this whole thing. Expertly played by Timothy Spall, he pauses and thinks about the questions where the audience knows exactly where Jay is coming from, so you churn about the directness of Jays aggressive questions. They counterbalance off each other and the way the story is told you realise that each one gains knowledge of the situation at different times. It works so well with Jay following Claire and then losers her and Claire spots Jay and ends up following him. He leads her straight to the pub where she acts and knowing that her husband is in there assume things are accidently coming together. This makes the story twist and turn and by then I was so drawn into the story I wanted to see how this pans out.

It is a fantastic story played low key and it feels like it got its reputation for the sexy show, which drew its attention from the censors but then played out a good story. Personally, I had never heard of this beforehand and even when it was delivered, and I thought I’d gone seriously wrong with this movie. The irony of it was that without the sex scene this was still a great story that may have made more money at the box office without it. I have no idea if they cleaned it up by cutting various scenes up and then released it into various countries. To make it screen safe in those countries if this happened then grab yourself a copy and give this movie a watch alternatively brace yourself for lots of naked flesh and give this one a watch yourself. You can then judge it for yourself.

Verdict -

Intimacy = So Bad – It's very good

(but not for the kids!!)
